Hi!
About 2 months ago, my son started snoring pretty loud at night - took him to the doctor and all she did was give me a sample of flonase, which I did not use because of the possible nose bleed side effect.

When you look into his mouth, his tonsils are very swollen, almost touching - is this normal?

Thanks for any advice!

Cathy

No, it is not and this is most likely to be the cause of his problems at present. Probably both a tonsil and adenoid problem. The two normally go together and could be this that is causing the snoring.

You need to ask for an ENT referral.

I agree, you need to see an ENT. My four year old used to snore very loudly, to the point where he would wake himself up!! His tonsils were also nearly touching, and he constantly suffered from tonsillitis. About two months ago he had his tonsils and adenoids removed, and there have been no problems ever since, he has even stopped snoring, and is now getting a full nights sleep. Good luck to you!

My son had the same problem....his tonsils were touching, they were removed about 2 years ago, along with his adeniods. He definitly needs to see an ent doctor. It's normal for children to have large tonsils, they usually grow into them tho, my son was not and this is why they were removed

Both of my children had abnormally large tonsils when they were healthy. When they got sick, they looked terrible. Both had their tonsils removed about a year apart, along with their adenoids, and they both sleep peacefully now. The lack of sleep before the removal didn't bother my daughter, but it started to affect my son and his behavior at school. Once the tonsils came out, and he was able to sleep better at night, versus getting up every couple of hours, his behavior improved tremendously.
