Doctor's are quick to say go on birth control to regulate your cycles when they're irregular, but why is it some Doctors say that if you had irregular cycles prior to the pill, your cycles when you get off of them are likely to revert back to being irregular? What's the point?

The pill in necessary to regulate periods. It isn't a permenant fix. If the body needs scheduled hormones to become regular, and those scheduled hormones are stopped, of course things are going to go back to the way they were.
It's just like a person who is treated for high blood pressure and takes medication for it. If they just decide out of the blue to stop taking medication, the blood pressure is going to go back to being high.
