Hi everyone,

I am 29 yrs old and about 2 months after giving birth to my son I developed dry eyes. Everyone told me that it was secondary to dehydration b/c of nursing and having hypothyroidism. The problem is that now I am startin to have vision changes as well. My vision is normal with eye drops in and stays that way for a while, but I have to keep instlling drops every 30 minutes to one hour. Does dry eye cause vision changes or should I look for another cause?

Thanks for your help and time!

Since light reflects off of your cornea, disruption in the quality of your tear film (or lack thereof!) can certainly cause vision problems. My eyes get blurry when they are dry, or watery. Sometimes I find it hard to focus on things.

I have the same problem with my right eye. It is always dry and very tired by the end of the day.My vision gets blurry and I find it hard to concentrate. I am a healthy 25 year old woman with good vision (until this started) I'm not sure what it is.

I am a 20 year old male and also experience blurred vision when my eyes get real dry. It seems to be more noticeable when I am looking at neon lights or the digital time on my clocks at home.

For those of you with dry eyes:

Do you put moisturizing eyedrops in eyes on a regular scheduled basis or only when your eyes feel dry?

I found if I put drops in every 2 hrs faithfully, even set a timer to be sure and not wait too long, this keeps eyes from drying out too much between drops.

The blurring is due to dry spots on the cornea. When putting drops in, keep putting them until the dry spots are moistened, may take more than 2 drops in each eye. Blink several times when you put drops in to spread drops all over the eye.

Deliberately blink frequently, way more than normal to help keep tears spread over eyes.

Remember, anahistamines and diuretics dry out the eyes. Some other meds can do the same.

Do not use steroid eye drops for more than 2 months, they can cause glucoma (sp).

Doing warm/hot soaks twice day and washing eyelids with baby shampoo water will help keep the oil glands thinned and working better. This will keep eyes from drying out so fast.

Avoid ceiling fans or fans of any kind blowing in the face. Avoid hair dryers from blowing in eyes. These dry eyes too much.
