As far as how long it will take to receive benefits, your Mom should contact the local person in the SS office who first did the intake interview. She will be paid back to her approval date, but she needs to contact the SS office to find out what her payday is each month. Like mine is the second Wednesday of each month.

Concerning the younger children, I'm not positive, but they will need to apply (or your mother apply if they're too young) to be approved for SSI benefits.

Idon't remember how long it was but as for children,under18 ,IN SCHOOL,and SS does for the kids only if it is SSDI not SSI. Unless ALL these are true the children don't get benifits.

When i was approved, someone from ssa actually called me and asked me a bunch of questions about my kids so they would be able to get benefits under my acct. This is also when I actually found out that I had been approved only two days prior to the phone call.My first check was in the bank by the end of the week. She should have gotten some sort of check by now. They usually just deposit it into your acct without you really knowing about it.She should call her bank and ask if there have been any big deposits lately or anything from the US treasury(that is the way it is listed in my bank sheets every month)..she may have gotten paid already but just does not know it as they give you no reciept or anything in the mail,it just gets deposited.she may have a great bank balance that she is not even aware of.I did not actually get my approval 'letter" until almost a month after that initial phone call, but got paid right away that first week of approval.Marcia
