What are the "suger" pills for? I just got my birth control and I'm not sure what they do. And are you still protected from getting pregnant in the one week you take these suger pills? Or are you always protected from getting pregnant when you're on birth control? Can my boyfriend and I have sex without a condom and have him ejaculate in me without having to worry about me getting pregnant? Thanks.

they don't do anything, they're just supposed to keep you in the habit of taking them
i don't bother
that is the week you have your period, and if you still want to have sex then, you won't get pregnent
you can't at any time on the pill

You are equally protected at all times of the month while on the pill, because the pill suppresses ovulation - and you have to ovulate in order to get pregnant. As long as you take the pill correctly, i.e. on time, it's over 99% effective, so no worries. The placebos/sugar pills are just there as a reminder, as others said; you can take them or not.

Yeah, I don't bother taking them either. Maybe it's in my head, but I swear I lost a bit of weight after stopping them. Not sure if that's due to them being sugar or not. Just a thought!

It's all in your head. :) They don't actually contain sugar, but just inert ingredients (powder, binders, etc). Even if the pill were all sugar, the amount would be so minute and certainly wouldn't lead to weight gain.

It's the hormone pills that affect your weight, not the 'sugar pills'
