samizzle79 05-13-2005, 03:53 PM My mom had recently told me about a new birthcontrol pill on the market. I am actually unsure if this pill is new or if new studies just came out but this pill is supposed to make you stay the same weight. Not gain or lose any pounds.
I know each person reacts differently to different pill but has anyone had a good birthcontol pill that made you lose weight or remain the same?
I just read a thread and a girl commented that she lost weight but "eats like a cow". Does birth control speed up your metabolism? Thanks all
Daisies4monkeys 05-13-2005, 06:41 PM What pill is this? The latest "new pill" I heard about was Yasmin, as it was finally released in Canada.
samizzle79 05-13-2005, 07:12 PM Maybe Yasmin is the name. I cannot remember. Do these sound effects sound about right for that pill?
Daisies4monkeys 05-13-2005, 08:19 PM Yes. Because Yasmin supposedly doesn't make you retain water, which is why many women gain weight on the pill.
calgarygirl 05-13-2005, 09:11 PM I am in Canada and I have been on the Yasmine pill for 2 months and have lost 5 lbs. Before that I was on Alesse for 4 yrs and my weight remained the same.
samizzle79 05-14-2005, 12:02 AM So are you losing weight because Yasmine helps reduce your current water level?
SunKissed 05-14-2005, 01:03 AM I was the one who said I lost weight but eat like a cow..hehe..i dont think BC is supposed to speed up your metabolism, but since I have gotten on Lo Ovral I feel thinner? my clothes look better and stuff, and I have not changed eating or exercising habits. it def. helps with the PMS before I get my period because I barely have any symptoms, no sore breasts or cramps, and when I get my period...pretty much no cramps at all (only when it first starts) and very little bleeding! so far...i love this pill =)
calgarygirl 05-14-2005, 01:16 AM I am assuming that in my case I have lost weight because I do not retain as much water. Yasmin has significantly helped with my migraine headaches and my periods are very light, 2-3 days. The down side is I've been experiencing bouts of depression. Not sure if it is related to this pill. There is some depression that runs in the family. Haven't been on it long enough to make judgement on it. But it has contributed to my weight loss for sure and it definitely has helped with the severity and amount of migraines I get. Keep in mind that everyone is different, we are all individual and what works for one person may not work for another.
Good-luck!
samizzle79 05-14-2005, 06:11 PM Sunkissed, are you currently on Yasmine or Lo Ovral?
Thank you for the info!
SunKissed 05-14-2005, 09:18 PM Im currently on Lo Ovral. Love it! I have no moodiness, light cramp free periods, pretty clear skin, and I feel thinner! =) woohooo. i used to be on Ortho Lo. and it was terrible but Lo Ovral is good so far!
Hideout 05-15-2005, 10:58 AM Don't get too excited about losing weight on Yasmin, it's only temporary. In a few months you may experience significant weight gain. Look at other posts about the serious side effects they have been experiencing!
samizzle79 05-15-2005, 02:41 PM That sounds excellent! I will check into that. Has anyone had different side effects from Lo Ovral? Or Yasmin?
SunKissed 05-15-2005, 04:25 PM You know what...i just thought of this today...but I have been taking a lot of calcium (pills, drinking more milk, ice cream, etc.) just for my bones but it also helps in WEIGHT LOSS. that may be the reason why I am feeling thinner in addition to Lo Ovral.
rush_rulz 05-15-2005, 11:15 PM I don't know about yasmin or dairy products increasing weight loss. Only recently have i been able to loose weight on yasmin (I am currently off of it now), and I think that was mostly due to starvation b/c it hurt me to eat everything for awhile with my teeth problems I have had, even soup hurt. So, I lost weight. I too was on Alesse and I gained 30 lbs in my 2nd year of use so I switched to yasmin but have had other negative side effects not related to weight gain, though I did go up in weight even more the 1st year on that pill. Some women may be able to loose weight on this pill and others just won't, it just depends on you.
calgarygirl 05-16-2005, 01:28 PM Everyone is different as I've said before, what may cause someone to gain weight on a certain pill may also cause somebody else to lose weight on that same pill or stay at the same weight. My dr told me that there is less chance of weight gain with Yasmin then some other pills out on the market. I agree that there seems to be alot of negative posts about the Yasmin bc pill but I've said it before-for ME I have lost some weight and my migraines are much better now-a really big difference!! Who really knows if all the symptoms people experience are truely related completely to the pill. I've experienced some of the common symptoms when I wasn't even on the pill. I also think that if you are going to experience side effects from the bc pill-they would be more likely to happen within the first 3-4 months of using a particular pill. Just because a certain brand of bc pill doesn't work for someone doesn't mean that someone else can't have success with that same pill.
