HI all,

I have a cyst on my kidney, left lower pole. No mention was made of the size on the report (CT scan with contrast). Before I had this test I've been having all kinds of pain but specifically on my left side under my ribs and down a little. Anyway, the nurse didn't mention this to me at all. I only found out after I read the report myself. I'm trying to figure out what part of the kideny the mean by lower left lobe. Is that lower ureter? And can these cysts cause pain? It apparently isn't large or of conern because I think the report would have said so. Should I see a urologist?

Thx.

It means the lower L part of the kidney itself.if they did not mention the actual size of the cyst i really can't imagine that it is of any huge size. But all reports really should include some sort of a size reference if for nothing else a documented baseline size upon Dx.You stated that it is ON the kidney and not actually IN it/Or was that just the way you said it.I would really suprised if this most likely small cyst would be causing you alot of your pain.My kidneys are loaded with polycysts both inside and out and my pain did not start until my kidneys became quite large from all of the cystic development. It IS possible but i would say very unlikely.Your pain could be coming from some other place entirely and the cyst on the kidney is just purely an incidental find.I hope you find the source of your pain.I know, pain just sucks.marcia

Hi Marcia,

pain does suck! It says cysts present in the lower pole of the left kidney. There is no evidence of hydronephrosis. I don't know if that 2nd part is related. They were really looking at my small and large intestines and I believe this is incidental. I do have pain though on my left side by my stomach. Maybe it is an ulcer from all of this worrying! I hate pain, have it all the time, everywhere it seems. I hope you are feeling good now though.

Thanks for explaining it.
