Ok, this is a little embarrassing, so I'll just spit it out quickly. I have suffered from constipation for years off and on but over the last few months it seems constant no matter what I eat. The last 3-4 weeks, I notice that when I feel the 'urge' sometimes nothing will come out but there will be blood. I don't think I have a hemmoroid (unless its internal) and there isn't really any pain to speak of. But it is enough blood to turn the water pink, and a couple times there has been what looks like small clots on the paper. And when I DO go, it's very little and still there is blood.....even though the stool is small (can you say 'rabbit'??lol). Any suggestions on what this may be? Should I be concerned? I wasn't too worried about it at first, but now that its continuing, I am a little bit. Has this happened to any one else? What was the cause? I would really hate to go to the doc to examine my bum just to find out it is nothing.....geez, like just him LOOKING isn't embarrassing enough??? LOL....thanks guys.

Also, it always feels like there is more in there after i go, but nothing happens....??? Does anyone else find this subject awkward???LOL

well you should go to the doctor and having him examine you because, while yes, it may very well be nothing serious, it may be.

rectal bleeding should never be ignored. causes range anywhere from hemmoroids to cancer and many things in between. not trying to scare you or anything, but you should just get it checked out to be sure. never hurts to be on the safe side.

I too have had this problem off and on for about five years or so.After a run of vomiting and the dry heaves about five years ago I had rectal bleeding after the vomiting stopped. It lasted for about two days and stopped bleeding.I suppose that all the straining from trying to vomit must have ruptured a small blood vessel.Anyway about a month later I noticed more blood after passing a hard stool.I went to my doctor and he told me to take more fiber in my diet and this seemed to work.I also discovered witch hazel in a natural healing book. This works great for the occasional blood.Take a small syringe (enema type) and insert about 1/2 ounce up into your rectum maybe 1 1/2 inches or so and keep it in there.I might sting a little but that goes away in a minute or so.Also wipe around your anus with a little witch hazel and this should stop the bleeding quickly. You will be retaining such a small amount of witch hazel that you will forget it's there.Try this after every bowel movent andGET MORE FIBER!!!!!I hope that this helps you,I know that it's scary.

Do not ingore blood in the stools, no matter how small an amount. I was constipated for years, and, like you, I started noticing blood in my stools and on the toilet paper. I let this go for over a year. I finally had a colonsocpy and found out I had an early stage of colon cancer. Don't wait like I did. Have the test, please. Also, age does not matter. I was in my early 30s and a woman, being treated the same time as me, was only 23. Check out posts under Cancer, Colon and Rectal. If there is anything, it will probably be caught early.

Thank you for your information. I have been concerned about cancer as well simply because it has been going on so long. I am calling my doctor today, so I will let you know what the outcome is. Do you know if there is any other way to have a colonoscopy other than drinking the saline fluid? I am only wondering because I KNOW I will not be able to drink enough. I am very gaggy. So I wonder if there is another way? Just curious.....Lil'Pea

Really? Thanks! I will ask my doc about that. That would be a huge relief to me! Thanks again......
