hello,
well i just had my first kidney stone on friday, talk about pain, i don't think it was worse than child birth though. My name is tammy i am 22 years old. I woke up friday morning with a dull pain in my abdomen and i had a weird urge that i had to pea, went to the bathroom and BAM it hit me right in my left flank. I had no idea what this pain was first felt like a charlie horse but then it got worse and i started feeling sick, so i had my husband take me to the ER, the longer i waited the worse it got. well we got there i started to give them my info, and in the middle of that i started throwing up so they took me straight back, the nurse said i bet money it's a kidney stone by the way you are acting, i said i can't have a kidney stone i'm only 22, and i've never had problems with my kidneys. but she said any one at any age can get them. so she hooked me up to an IV and told me to pea in a cup. i came back and i started throwing up again until there was nothing left by this time the pain was at it's worst, i could sit still i couldn't stand still all i could do was pace. finally they came in with the pain meds, demerol and 2 other different meds. took about 5 minutes to kick and but i layed down when the room started spinning, and feel asleep. they came back and took me to have a CT scan. turns out i have a 7mm kidney stone. i haven't been in any pain since the pain meds, and i don't think i passed it yet because there hasn't been anything in the strainer, so maybe it's sitting in my bladder. i guess when i see a urologist he will find out. so this is so long but i am still in a but of shock. i would love to talk to you all about this

Hi,

You will not pass a 7mm stone it is too big.

You need to make an appt with a urologist or a nephrologist to get this taken care of. The stone will only get bigger and cause more damage.

You will need the lithotripsy done, where they break up the stone by laser.

When you find out more information on your stones I can help you more.

i don't understand though, everyone that i talked to said that they were in pain the whole time until they had them blasted. I am not in any pain, i stoped taking the oxycodone to see if any thing would come back, and nothing. i do get some weird sensations but nothing like the pain i had. my best guess until i see the urologist is that it's sitting in my bladder and that might be what is causing my weird sensations. dont know! i will keep posting when something changes. thank you for your input, any more would be appreicated

You should be in the hospital after passing that stone, or you must have a very, very large ureter.

My urologist told me that the biggest stone she has ever seen pass was a 4mm stone.

When you give that to your urologist have them put it in the World record book, they should be able to publish this one.

i drank alot of cranberry juice, i'm just not a big water person.i don't know how i passed it, but it came out. no pain at all, luck was on my side. i go to see that urologist on wednesday, so i'll let you all know what she says. i did read on the internet though that it is possible to pass a stone as large as 7mm, but it did say that when it gets up to like 9mm chances are you won't pass it. i just hop i don't get any more. i don't know what i did to get this one, thats why i'm a little anxious to find out what it's made of. my father had one and his was made of uric acid, he currently has one from each kidney right now, he is on avinza right now, which is a morphine release tablet, but it's not for his kidney stones, he had a spinal fusion a couple of months ago, it's when the avinza starts to were off that he felt that pain from the kidney stone, so i don't think that they are in a big hurry to do anything for him since he's already taking morphine. but i will let you all know what the doc says tomarrow.here is what i found on the internet.

Q. If I get a kidney stone, what are my chances of passing it?

Dr. Green: The size, configuration, and location affect the spontaneous passage of stones. However, stones less than 4 mm in diameter located in the lower ureter have a 90% change of passing. In contrast, stones greater than 6 mm in diameter have only a 20% chance of passing spontaneously.
so i guess i was in that 20% :)

well i went to the urologist yesterday. he said more than likely my stones are caused from not drinking enough, he said that someone like me should be drinking about 3 liters of fluids a day. my stone was actually around 5 mm, he said that CT scans can make them look a big bigger, but after actually seeing the kidney stone in person that's about how big it was. i have to go have the usual blood work done and this thing called litholink, basically they mail me the supplies and i have to collect a 24 hr urine sample. he said that was the only stone they saw in the ct scan, so there is no more inside me, so i am going to drink like crazy to prevent any more from coming, now that i what can happen when you don't drink. before i was only probably drinking about 4-6 cups of fluid everyday sometimes just enough to wet my whistle if i was thirsty. i'm a busy mom, so the last thing on my mind was making sure i got enough to drink. so now i've been drinking grape juice, and they come in 10 oz little bottles so i've been keeping the bottles and filling them up with water, and putting the in the freezer, i figure it I drink 10 of those each day i'm good, that will be 100 oz a day and i need 96oz. any way enough with blabing thank you all. i will post again when i get all of my test results back.

Hi Tramcdannell,

I am glad that you are feeling better, you need to drink alot of water or anything just to make sure you are getting enough.

Now remember, when you do this 24 hour urine test you have to drink more water than usual.

I have to do a urine test also, I haven't called my urologist about it yet, because I don't have a day where I can just be home to collect my urine. It will be interesting.

When you find out what kind of stone it is let me know, I am just curious.
