View Full Version : Cataracts: Crystalens v. Restor

I am scheduled to have cataract surgery June 6 and July 29 (if I pass the physical next Wednesday, the 18th).
I am planning on getting the "new" Crystalens, but am now reading about Alcon's new "Restor."

Does anyone here have any experience (first- or second-hand) with Restor?

Restor does not rely on the eye's muscles to change focus, and is supposed to be better than the Crystalens for immediate near and close vision and for fewer halos.

That's a big decision you have to make in a fairly short time. I've heard of Crystalens, but not Restor. The cataract surgeon might be the best one to ask, but they are so busy. Perhaps speaking to his assistant/office staff would give you a better idea. Afterall, they would know what the patients thought of the new lenses. That is, if they have many patients who have had them implanted.

Thanks Torre. That just confirms what I thought. I have this feeling that the Crystalens is to Restor what Windows 95 was to Windows 98, and what ME was to Windows XP. But I also am guessing that the doctor will be short on debate time, and say something like, "There will always be something better in the future." Then I'll probably be left feeling like I want the Restor, but there won't be any doctor to do it. Can you tell I also have anxiety disorder in my repertoire of health issues? ;)
