This question may sound familiar, but I read somewhere that the main reason why there's weight gain or loss on the pill for some women is an increase or decrease in appetite. Anyone wanna back me up or shoot me down on this? I'd like to know so that when i start on it i'll know if i'm really hungry or if it's just the pill talking and I should wiat till my next meal to eat. Thanks!

in my first month i didnt notice anything. in the 2nd month though, i noticed that i really craved a lot of sweet/fatty things, like cookies, doughnuts, etc. and I dont have a weight problem, so i ate what i craved. now i noticed a slight increase in the jiggliness of my rear/thighs... so from my experience, it seems like its from an increased appetite.

Most of the medical community agrees that the only weight loss directly caused by the pill is potential water weight, which only amount to 5 pounds or less. It's thought that excessive weight gain is caused by a change in diet and exercise.

I gained weight on Estrostep even though I was exercising regularly 4 or 5 days/wk. My appetite increased on this pill and I gained 15 lbs. in 5 months. It wasn't muscle, I had to buy bigger clothes. The same thing is happening now with Ovcon-35. I've gone from a size 5 to a size 7, which is about as big as I can tolerate myself :) . Although the increased appetite is gone (I had it for about a month on this pill), I still have a 7 lb. weight gain. I still exercise 4 or 5 days to stay fit, plus I clean houses. I had lost about 35 lbs. which I was able to keep off before going on this pill. I'm considering switching pills.

I am currently taking Estrostep and have noticed a change in my weight since I started taking BC in August before I got married. Most of my clothes from last year are either tighter or they don't fit @ all. I seem bloated & almost miserable just about all of the time. I have never really been one to watch my weight too much. I am not one of the smaller girls either, I have mostly stayed active & pretty much ate whatever I wanted but since I have started taking my BC I have noticed cravings for food. Then there are sometimes when I don't eat any more than I normally would and have actually tried to watch what I eat & I still feel miserable. So I would say "YES" taking BC can contribute to weight gain. As I was telling my husband the other day I am going to talk to my doc about trying a new pill because I don't think that I can stand this. {removed}

Ditto to KittyWitty, I was exercising like I was training for a triathalon, (4-5days a week including weight training) eating really clean (in spite of the raging appetite that the pill supplied) and would still manage to gain weight and if I didn't gain I lost nothing for as long as I was on it and certainly didn't look like I was doing all that exercise! Remember the pill is a steroid, and the same way the male athletes get ripped on certain ones these ones can make you soft and mushy, or unfortunately fatter.

The pill is considered a steroid?? That's interesting, I didn't know that. I always thought the pill mimics pregnancy, so that's why you get all the same side effects of a pregnancy: moodiness/depression, increased appetite, weight gain, sore/enlarged boobs, etc. Go figure.

I also took Estrostep and my appetite increased significantly! I'm on Ovcon and I'm doing fine.

Yeah, that Estrostep is one nasty pill. I gained weight on it plus had hair loss. {removed} I've been on it for almost six months. This is my second time on it. The first time, I didn't have any weight gain, except in the boobs. I went from a C to a D cup. ;)
