Hello again,

I have been on Vicodin 5/500 for quite some time and after speaking with my Dr. about the liver concerns, he switched me to Norco 10/325.

My previous script was written "take 1-2 tablets, 2-3 times a day" I was on the high end for relief-2/3 x's a day.

The norco is written: "take 1 tablet every 6 hours". The concerns I am having are, this medicine makes me extremely nauseus. I have taken it w/ food, doesn't help. I have taken one half at a time, still nauseus. The pain relief that I had w/ the Vicodin was much greater than the Norco.

Can anyone make sense of this? I did speak w/ my Dr.'s nurse and she said that he does not want to switch me back to my old med. So looks like I am stuck for now.

TIA,

Trina
& my many lower back issues...

Hi Trina,
There's absolutely no reason why you should feel sick taking this new medication. Do you know if you have been dispensed the brand name medicine or has it been generics? It really doesn't matter, but most pharmicists are dispensing generics, if your doctor signed the script where it says "subsitutions permitted", due to the cost of the brand vs generics. If you were taking two tablets of Vicodin before he switched you to the Norco 10's, either way you were taking Hydrocodone. Before it was 1,000 mg of apap and 10 mg of Hydro and now it's 325 mg of apap and 10 mg of Hydro. Same med only 675 mg less of the apap.

When I was taking Hydrocodone, I would always get the generic Hydro, no mater how it was written by the doctor. I can only remember one time when the doctor wrote a script for Percocet and he signed it on the line where it says "dispense as written" and when I picked the med up at the pharmacy, my co-pay was like $20 instead of the $5.00 I was normally paying. When I asked about it, the pharmacy tech told me the doctor had written it that way.

Hang in there and if necessary, take your med with food (or milk, if you drink it), but it's the same med you had before. It should level out soon.

Yup It really is, and a very good chance it's made by the the same generic manufacturer, eiteher mallinkrodt or watson. The mallincrodt has an M and a different number for each strength and the watsons have watson and a different number for each strenght. They cover the full line of all the different hydro apap combos. The best way to maintain a smooth serum level that you should get used to quicker is
5 mgs or a half a norco every 3 hours You won't have the ups and downass but it won't be as strong as taking 1and a half 5's at a time.More apap usually causes stomache upset, not the other way round. I' sure things will settle down.

If you are used to taking hydro every 4 hours and are trying to go to a 6 hour dose, you might be experiencing some mini withdrawal between doses. Physical dependence will eventually occur with any opiate. Not to be confused with addiction.
Good Luck, Dave

Thank you Director & Shoreline. I knew you guys could help.

I will try your suggestion Shoreline, as I still can't get over the nausea.

Have a great night.

Trina :)
