I mean they all have to provide some kind of protection, right? Or is the UV protection label on the glasses just for marketing just to make them look better than a pair without the label?

Hi,
NO :nono: , all sunglasses do not protect against UV rays. Most sunglasses are marketed for esthetics (and to make a buck). If you want to protect your vision (and sun can cause cataracts) then purchase a good reliable pair. And there are different type of UV rays, so do some research to see which ones protect your eyes the best. I'm not sure on it, but it may be the UVB rays that are the most damaging. I know they can cost more money, but for those of us with major eye problems, eyes are priceless.
Hope this doesn't sound like yelling, I'm just a bit fanatical about vision.
There are lots of good ones out there that are affordable and are cool  , so find ones you love.
P.S. Sunglasses should be worn all year, too, not just Summer.
