Hello again:

My family member is going to have a ganglion of impar/coccygeal block done next week. Anyone experience this? Looking online it sounds like it can be effective but isn't the end-all for intractable pain. Anyone?

Hey Ccoffe drinker. Your post made me curious so I had do do somereading. It sounds like any block in most ways. There are few unique risks due to location, but it sounds like it may offer relief for coxxidinia, or pelvic pain.

Blocks due wear off but if it offered even weeks of relief, ithose weks would be a godsend to someone that has to learn to live with a some pain regardless of what they due.

That's when you really way the risks and the desperation factor comes in. If everything else is being done and the pain still severe enough, the risk and discomfort may be well worth it.

If it would numb those peripheral nerves for a while, being pain free even for a little while is worth taking a chance in my book. Be sure that this is bein done under flouroscopy, so they can guide the needle and not just being digging blindly. But it's a pretty individual decision whether it's worth the discomfort and risk for that type of potential short term relief. I would love to be able to check into the hopital and be given an epidural block from T12 down to numb everything. A cath would be a small price to pay for 12 hours of being pain free. LOL

There may be others with pelvic pain that have tried it, but you might get more responses at a forum more specific to the problem. I just haven't seen this one come up in the 6 years I have posted on this forum "pain mnagement". It's definitely a PM question as far as blocks go, but you may find more personal experiences with this specific block at a more specific forum topic.

Let us know if it's succesful, because there are so many spianl blocks done it may give some folks hope of real relief even if it's temp.
Take care. Dave
