Can someone that's on, or has been on, this pill give me a run-down of side effects, etc. you've experienced? I realize everyone is different but I'd like to here from people who have used this particular pill (not Mircette). I'm considering switching pills due to a 7 lb. weight gain on Ovcon-35. I know, it doesn't seem like much of a gain, but I've lost about 35 lbs. and have been able to keep it off, until now anyway. Thanks for your help.

Kavira is the generic of Mircette, so perhaps by asking for experiences of BOTH Kavira and Mircette users you'll get more responses. As well, side effects differ for each woman. Not every woman will gain weight on a given pill, just as not all will experience breast growth, or cramp reduction, etc. It depends entirely on the woman. Talking to your doctor would be your best bet, as he or she will know your history and be able to make an educated guess as to which pill would best suit your needs.

Okay, Mircette (Kariva, specifically)? Any takers? There used to be a long thread on this pill (Kariva). {removed} Hope to hear from someone soon.

This is the second time I've been on Ovcon-35, and I didn't gain weight the first time, so I know that it can vary even for the same woman. I was just hoping to get some feedback on it (Kariva) from someone who's taken it. Thanks, though.

Hi,
I have been on Loestrin/Microgestin before and liked it. Then after a few years started to get headaches on it. I went on to Mirecette/Kariva and don't get headaches and actually have a better mood on it and I think I've lost weight on it. It's a pretty good pill.
Hope this helps.

I used Kariva for just one month. I had no mood swings or any bloating on that pill; in all honesty I didn't even feel like I was on any pill during that perid, which was great because other pills had caused me mood swings. I also have heard from multiple users of this pill that they haven't gain any weight on it and one had even lost weight on it.
I, however, stopped Kariva after the forst month because I bled for almost 3 weeks straight while on it. The bleeding was heavy and painful (cramps). I had tried other pills and had never experienced BTB on any of them. I spoke to some of my friends who had tried Kariva and they told me that they also experienced heavy BTB on it but their exprience with the brand name pill (Mircette) was by far better in that respect (and also over all!). So this month I am going to use Mircette and see how it goes. (The not bloating, and no moodiness at all were so great for me to give up on it yet.) I know that your body takes a while to adjust to the OCs bt I have tried a few before (with the same dose of estrogen in them as in Kariva) but never had BTB.
I hope this helps!
Let me know if you have any other questions.

Thanks for your post. The btb side effect of pills isn't really an issue with me. I had that on Ovcon-35 the first time I took it. It lasted for the first month then it went away. However, I am concerned about lack of sex drive. I was on Desogen before for only a month because it slaughtered my sex drive. I notice Mircette/Kariva has the same type of progestin in it and is made by the same company as Desogen. I can't be on something that kills my drive because my husband is a hound :) , and it's annoying to have him bugging me. I'll try to stick it out with the Ovcon for another month, but if I gain any more weight, especially in the stomach/waist, I'm going to give the Kariva a try. From everything I've read, people seem to be happy with it overall. Thanks again.

It's funny you mentioned Ovcon 35 because the provider suggested it to me as well (in response to the sex drive thing and lack of lubrication). I was not open to trying it yet though because of the much higher dose of estrogen in it; I really want to be on the lowest dose possible. Have you tried anything else that didn't kill your sex drive? or didn't make you dry?

I've been on other ones where I didn't have a problem with sex drive, but had worse side effects such as hair loss (alot), weight gain, depression, etc. Estrostep was by far the worst pill ever. That was the one I lost alot of hair on. I once had very thick hair and now I have about half of it left. I've been on a host of other pills over the past 15 years off and on. Like I said, though, I'll try the Kariva if the Ovcon doesn't work out, but if that doesn't work I quit. I'm afraid to try anything else. The reason why I'm leaning more toward Kariva instead of Mircette is that I've read on other boards on the net that more people seem to have sex drive problems with Mircette as oppose to Kariva. I'll keep my fingers crossed, though, and hope I don't gain anymore weight so I don't have to switch. I lost about 35lbs. two years ago and have kept it off until now and I will not get fat again. I worked way too hard to lose it.

Have you thought about Loestrin? I have heard very good things about it (in terms of sex drive and not gaining weight etc.)

I know of someone that gained weight on it. After all the side effects I've experienced with medication (not just birth control either), I just don't trust doctors anymore to prescribe what they think is 'right' for me. I'm very sensitive to side effects, and whatever pill I decide to go on, I'll have to do some serious research first. But thanks for the suggestion. :)

I've been on Kariva now for over a year with great results. It significantly helps my menstral migranes!!! I didn't experience any weight gain when I started but I was switching from another pill. I can't say that it has significantly changed my PMS. I still hit that day where I am pissed off at everything, mad and unhappy and can't figure out why until I remember where I am in my cycle. I think it is more a function of being on BC for a long period of time and not neccessarily due to the Kariva but I actually skip the "bleeding" part of about every 3 period (still get PMS and migrane though).

That must drive you nuts not bleeding sometimes. I mean, did you ever think you were pregnant when that first happened? I would have if it were me. Anyway, thanks a lot for your reply. I guess this isn't a really popular pill, no one posts about it much. I'm still trying to lose the Ovcon weight. I'm doing extra cardio. I'm going to try for about two more weeks and see if it comes off, if not, I'm going to try Kariva. Thanks again.
