I was just told by my doc at my postpartum appt. that I was a very high risk for stroke if I take estrogen contraceptives. Migraines really increase the risk or stroke in YOUNG women (not just the smoker over 35 variety), particularly if you have an aura... I get tunnel vision with mine, which counts. I'm also smoker and have Mitral Valve Prolapse which also raises my risk for stroke. The smoking risk is preventable, of course, but the other two raise my risk and aren't preventable.

Just thought I'd let you know!!! It's scary, and I'm glad I know this now! I'll probably never take hormone BC again. I have already taken it off and on for years.

Yes, my neurologist told me the same thing. And he said migraines with aura plus smoking is practically a death sentence if you take the pill. He is ok with me staying on it since I don't have aura though. Made me swear up and down I would never try smoking though.
