A few years ago (maybe 2-3) I started shaving down there. I had gotten a nasty in-grown hair and it was horrible for almost a year. I had thought, after much poking & prodding and bleeding, that I had pulled the pesky thing out. Come to find out, I hadn't and 3 years later, it is now embedded under my skin with a small bump on top of it. When it was really bothering me, I asked my gyno what it was and she said it would go away, and so that is why I left it alone.
I know it's an in-grown hair becaus I can feel it when I squeeze the area.
Does anyone know how it could be removed? It doesn't really bother me anymore, except for the occaional itching it causes. I want to ask my gyno if she'll be able to remove it, but I am just scared of how they would remove it.
Would they cut the bump open?
Has anyone else had this problem?

I have never had an ingrown hair last that long. I just take a pair of tweezers to mine and actually break the skin until i can get a hold of the hair...that'd probably be all they do if you went in to have it professionally done...

I have been getting brazillian waxes for a very long time and from time to time I get an ingrown hair which becomes mildly infected. This is what I do.
Lance (hold under fire) a fine needle. This will kill all bacteria on the metal. You could also soak it in rubbing alcohol. Use the needle to dig under the skin where the ingrown hair is located. Use a digging motion, example under and up and then pull up so to break the skin in a straight line. Make sure you go deep enough. Once you reach the spot where the hair is, you will feel it on your needle. Put it up with the needle and pull it out with a pair of tweezers. Once the hair is removed, use a cotton ball and some more rubbing alcohol to disinfect the area.
To prevent ingrown hairs EXFOLIATE, EXFOLIATE, EXFOLIATE. Get yourself one of those brushes or mitts and do it every two days!
Good luck!

Here is a less invasive trick: Hold a hot steaming towel on the hair for a few minutes (to coax the hair out). Then dap rubbing alcohol on the spot with a Q-tip (drying). Then a dab of neosporin (for infection). Do this twice a day and your hair should be healing within a few days without cutting into sensitive areas. good luck.
