When I was diagnosed with a blood cloth in my lung, the doctor told me that the only thing I could take for pain is Tylenol.

I checked with my pharmacist for what I could take for allergies. He suggested only one thing but he was not sure. Now I went again to the same pharmacie but talked to a different pharmacist and she told me that I could take Claritin for my cold. I was wondering what you might have taken for a cold while taking Coumadin and was told by a pharmacist you could take it.

I wouldn't take anything before checking with the doctor who put you on the Coumadin therapy. Stick with the suggestions of that one doctor. The pharmacist does not know your history or current medical condition - He/She is only guessing.

Thank you for your suggestion. My only problem is that when I ask my doctor what I can take he tells me to ask my pharmacist since they have more information on what interferes with what.

Try using an online drug interaction checker for things like this. :) If there are any interactions, it will tell you. :)

True, pharmacist will probably know what interferes with Coumadin better than most doctors. Doctors have to use their PR for information.

I've taken Coumadin for 15 years and will be for the rest of my life. I NEVER take any over the counter cold medication.
No problem, most of it is a waste of money.
