Okay so my doctor told me to start the first sunday after my next period, or that sunday that i get my period. But i got the pills so that (about sometime this week) when my next period comes i'm ready to start. However, I was reading the uinstructions,a dn they tell me to start within the first 24 hours that i get my next period. What instructions should I follow? It also gives directions for if I start on sunday, what's the difference? Does it have to do with the way the pack is organized? I'm hoping to get my period on sunday so i ahve nothing to worry about hahaha.

You should listen to your doctor and start on sunday. Iam a first time pill starter and that was one of the questions i asked my doctor. I know the instructions on the pill may tell you to start 24 hour within your period but, you have to realize that if you look at the pill package they start on sunday and if you were to take them any other day than sunday, then you will mess up the cycle. So if you were to have your period on wed for example, you start taking your pills that following sunday coming up. Its doesnt have to be a wed, it can be anyday of the week, just as long as you start on sunday. I hope i helped you out. I know how you feel because am a first time pill starter :)

Either way is fine. If you start the pills on the first day of your period, you are protected immediately. If you start them any other time (including the first Sunday after your period begins) you need to use back-up for seven days.

The reason they say to use a Sunday start date is that for most women this means they will not have their periods on weekeds, or if they do, it will just be finishing up, so they don't have to deal with cramps and such on the weekend.

You can start ANY day of the week. Inside the box, there should be your pills, a pamphlet about the pills, and some stickers that you use to put on the pills to indicate the days of the week. For example, if you start taking the pills on Wednesday, choose the sticker that starts on Wednesday.

Now, a lot of people will tell you to wait a month after starting the pills before relying on only them for protection. But you are FULLY protected after seven days of taking the pill, or immediately if you start them on the first day of your period. After you start taking the pills, if you take them at the same time (or around the same time) daily, you are equally protected all month long, including during your sugar ("placebo") pills when you get your period.
