So it's been almost a yr. since my diagnosis. In the beginning, I used this board a lot, and since then, peek in every now and then. So for all of us who deal with this in some format or another - who are thinking, god, nobody i know must have this, i'm all alone.... just think of the number of people who, like me, contract HSV, obsess about it for awhile (naturally), then it just fades into the background of your life, becoming nothing but a minor irritation every now and then.

I am glad to see this post! I was diagnosed in March and I am already begining to see it as just a part of my life now and move on with it. It is an annoyance for sure, but finding this website has helped me out in so many ways. For example I am trying some supplements now on top of the Valtrex I take for suppresive. Can you tell us a brief tale of the past year and what you have found works for you? And how frequently you have been getting OB's in the last year?

Also what makes it easier for me is probably being in a relationship with someone who has been understanding. The hardest part is worrying about intimacy and some things involved in it. If you have delt with this worry let me know and I have some more details I'd love to get advice on.

Thanks!

i was diagonsed in July 2004............and i seriously thought my life would NEVER be the same...................well, since that horrible primary outbreak, i have not had an outbreak since..............i rarely even think about it anymore...........in the back of my mind, i know its still there, but its exactly that in the "back" of my mind.....it doesnt effect things i do on a daily basis, like i thought it would.............if not for nothing, having HSV only helped me to live a healthier lifestlye then i was living before............

Bingo! :)

I contracted HSV-1 genitally 2 1/2 years ago and it was the worst experience ever. Since then I have had a total of 3 outbreaks - and all were very very minor. If anything it's more like a yeast infection...but not as bad! At least with Herpes you just take 1 pill for 7 days and you're done... No mess to worry about...and especially no itching. Ugh - thank goodness.

My boyfriend has HSV-1 orally, and since has given it to me orally. Our story is a long and complicated one, and will have to save it for another day...but all in all I never really think about it. It's something that I compare a yeast infection or a bladder infection to - all which I get very very rarely. :) I'm very lucky indeed...
