I found this on their website...

Autism Is A World

Nominated for an Academy Award, "Autism Is A World" is a rare look at autism through the words of a young woman who lives with it. The film is scheduled to be broadcast on May 22 at 8 p.m. ET on CNN.

"Autism Is A World" is a co-production of CNN Presents and State of the Art, Inc., and was produced and directed by filmmaker Gerry Wurzburg.

I seen the special... on sunday.. I have to say I was disapointed...for one they never said what type of Autism she has... and anyone that seen the special.. can clearly tell theres something more going on with her then autism...I found it interesting.. however... I dont think it was clear enough... for those folks who dont live with someone who has autism.. people are going to see that and think .. that what every autistic kid/ person is like....I mean really.. how many people have said to you... when u reveiled.. u had an autistic child... " ohh is he like rainman" if u havent heard it yet I m sure at some point you will... this is just me venting... so dont read too much into it... thanks for listening..

It was depressing and made me cry. Check out ASA (Autism Society of America) they sent me an email about the show. Also, it is available to 16,000 librarys for FREE. And I agree with you princessputter. But just remember those comments could be because they are trying to understand. My comment is Do you always believe everything you see on television? I think what you saw was mongolism, mind you I am not an expert this is my guess.

I saw the special and it was interesting, but it was also a little disturbing to me. It raised issues that I'm not ready to deal with yet, such as whether my son will grow up and be independent or will he have to have someone with him 24/7? (It's enough just to deal with one day at a time.) What surprised me was how intelligent the woman seemed, at least her thoughts came across as being intelligent, yet she cannot do everyday things like pay bills, and someone on the special said that one of the reasons she cannot live by herself was that if there were a fire in her home, she wouldn't be able to call 911. I assume she's not considered high-functioning? That was never really made clear. Who else saw the special and what did you think?

I agree with SHReed. It is hard enough to deal with day to day much less trying to know what may or may not happen in the future. Lexi is not high-functioning.They never told us what level Lexi is at. So it is hard for me to see what she may need. I want Lexi to get anything and everything she needs no matter what.
