Hello Ladies,
I have a question about this pill. I'm in my 3rd week of my second month and I have had spotting/btb the entire time. This week it has been really heavy so I think it's my period. Next week is my inactive week. Does that mean I will have another week of heavy? Is this normal for this pill? I go back to the doctor on June 2nd. I will be in my first week of the 3rd month at that time. Do I need a pill with a higher progestin??? I'm so frustrated and scared.
Thanks,
Heidi

You're only on your second pack. Pills need to be taken for three to six months before your body is totally used to it. Breakthrough bleeding is totally normal when still getting used to the pill. And having your periods early once is nothing to be alarmed about, especially as this is only month two. If this happened every month after you'd been on this pill for eight months, for example, then a pill switch would probably be in order.
Your body should sort itself out. :)
And you may or may not bleed next week, it's really hard to say. But even if you do, don't worry. As I said, it takes three to six months for your body to adjust to a pill. (and if you switch pills, your body will need to get used to that one as well).

Daisies4monkeys,
Thanks for your reply. I think I had my period in the 3rd week last month too. It's hard to tell because I spot/bleed the entire month. I was also on Medroxyprogesterone (Provera) for 6 months just prior to starting the pill last month. Is it possible that this is still in my system and is messing with the pill?
Sorry for so many questions, I just freak when I bleed. It's really hard for me to relax about it. A little history, last year, with a different doctor, I was bleeding so much I needed a transfusion. I don't want to go through that again. The new doctor has me taking iron pills to try to keep my level up so I don't need another transfusion. Does the body make new blood on it's own and with the iron pills that is helping too?

Hmm....if you were bleeding that much, have you considered continuous birth control? Like Seasonale? That way you'd only have a period once every three months.
Has the spotting/bleeding gotten better at all since last month? If so, then I'd suggest maybe waiting one more month to see if it seems to be continually improving. But if you start bleeding really heavily (going through a pad or tampon in an hour) then DEFINITELY go to your doctor. You could always go now and ask for a pill with higher progestin in it, like Desogen or Demulen. Although as I said in my previous post it takes the body three to six months (generally three) to get used to any given birth control pill, so even if you change you might have breakthrough bleeding.

The other doctor put me on Seasonale last year and the new doctor took me off. Said I had a hormone imbalance and that was not a good pill for me. Put me on theP provera for 6 months. I called the office last week and my doctor is out of the country for 2 weeks. The other doctor in the office said to continue with it until I see her on the 2nd. I will tell her what I have been doing and ask if I can get on another pill or stay with this one.
The bleeding seems to be getting better more often than last month. I use only 1 pad per day. Nothing usually on it all day. It's just when I use the bathroom. The bleeding is kinda stringy with clear mucus in it. Sorry if that's TMI. It's just scary for me. :)
thanks for listening....

Oh, if the bleeding is just as you describe, that sounds like normal "getting used to the pill" bleeding. :)
I understand how scary this must be for you, but it sounds like the bleeding is getting better, which is awesome. :)

Because the bleeding (or whatever it is) sometimes gets heavy with some clots, I take that to be my period. I guess. I really don't know. :)

I'm on Ovcon-35 (almost six months) and my periods are always clotty and only last 2 or 3 days. This is my second time on this pill. The first time I was on it I had btb the first month and after that it went away. This time around I didn't have any at all though :) , everybody's different.

Thanks for the reply. I'm just crossing my fingers that it works out within the next month or so. Otherwise I will have to change pills and then go through the 3 month thing again. I'll see what the doctor says in a few weeks.
