My son is a healthy 7yr old. He called me into the bathroom and showed me that he just peed blood. Needless to say, my husband and I had a melt down seeing it but sure enough, it was bright red blood. Called the pediatrician and he sent us to Children's Hospital where blood work and urine testing were done. All yielded normal results. His physical exam was normal and he was otherwise asymptomatic. Two days later he was sick with nausea, stomach cramps, vomiting. The pediatrician felt that he just picked up the nasty stomach flu while at Childrens and he would be fine. I was still worried sick so I called another pediatrician for a second opinion (he knows my son very well). He too agreed that I shouldnt be overly concerned and more than likely the blood in the urine and stomach stuff were two seperate things. THey both feel the blood in the urine was from a previous strep infection he had a month or so prior and sometimes the dead strep bacteria can cause an inflammation in the kidney, in turn, causing blood in the urine. He is totally recovered from the stomach flu and I take him weekly to have a blood pressure check and urine dipstick until he is seen my a kidney doctor and his urine is back to yellow but has trace amounts of blood and his blood pressure is normal and has been. Anyone ever had or heard of a similar situation? Any replies would be great. Thank you.

i peed blood around that age i believe. just once. everything was fine (though i denied it when my parents asked if it was me- i forgot to flush!, so no blood work but i was ok). second i had problems with my kidneys becasue they were dehydrated. major cramps like clockwork every 24 hrs...i can't remember if there were other symptoms. went to the hospitals, had every needle and probe...turns out i was totally dehydrated. i dont remember if these incidences were close in time to one another though i do know they happened when i was around 7 or 8. i am completely fine (15 yrs later). don't know if this helps:)

Yes, anything helps. I appreciate you taking time to reply. He seems to be fine too and it hasnt happened again so hopefully it was an isolated incident. He still needs to follow up with a kidney specialist so I guess we will see what he thinks.
Thanks again!
