Hi, I'm shelly, 19, and I have been experiencing some strange symptoms and I've been wondering what it is. Could it even be cancer??
My symptons include
- swollen, bloated stomach
- achey feeling in my stomach, lower back and down 'there'
-Itchyness- especially around my period time and I seem to be quite red
- a funny discharge, greeny-yellow thats wateryish
- some bowel problems too, including the runs, constipation and funny colour
- painful using tampons
I went to the doctors a couple of times and they diagnosed BV and treated that with metranoz...? but it didn't work so they tested me again and it was inconclusive.
I've have only been with one man, who I am still with. Always used contraception and I was his first and we haven't cheated. I'm really worrying about this please help me, Please.

Hi Shelly
I had this around your age. I was pretty worried too. I had a constant ache across the lower abdomen into the groin (pubic area), which also made my lower back ache. I gave up and went in to the clinic. They did a quick pelvic exam and swabbed the inside (quick painless) and found I had a vaginal infection going. Then they treated it with some medication, a cream and some pills. I couldn't believe that was all it was, but it cleared up and the symptoms went away. A yeast infection or bacterial vaginosis can make you really hurt if it's gone on too long. I wasn't even itching or burning, so this is why I had no idea it was just an infection.
I Have always been monogamous so it can happen even with just one sex partner.
Don't let the scare of cervical cancer keep you from getting checked!
Good luck

PS the discharge could definitely be a clue as to some kind of infection happening. Use pads till you clear it up.

There's a difference between inconclusive and negative test results. I think you have a recurrent BV infection also. You need to be on antibiotics again.
Sure hope you feel better soon!

Thankyou for replying.
The doctor told me that because it was inconclusive she could not treat me again and said that my discharge was probably normal for me which it isn't.
Is there anything I can do at home to stop it reacurring aswell??

Hi Shelly,
Do you have any urinary symptoms? If so, it could be something they call "honeymoon cystitis." I used to have that at your age. Hence the name, it is something many woman get when they have sexual intercourse with someone, especially if you are a virgin. Cystitis simply means: inflammation of the bladder. It causes abdominal pain/burning or urgency urinating and urine often appears foggy. But it also does sound like BV that hasn't cleared and that is also very common at your age. I had that also at the same time with cystitis, at your age. It did take a long time to clear up but som tips to help you avoid reinfection of either: Was before and after sex wash with a mild (non dedorant soap), take cranberry capsules or drink cranberry juice and make sure (after you have a bowl movement) to wipe front to back!!!!! Good luck, hope this helps.

Yes, that kind of makes sense. My urine is foggy and sometimes stings when I go.
I will try and make a doctors appointment but it takes up to six weeks to get an appointment with our doctors.

what about a planned parenthood, you can go there to get a women's checkup and they usually take walkins better than waiting 6 weeks

just a home remedy.. not a substitute for a doctor, but... try drinking cranberry juice on a regular basis (or buy the pills). and even eating a yogurt everyday can make a difference. the cranberry for the urinary tract, the yogurt for the weird discharge. also, be sure to drink a lot of water, sort of flushes you out.
like i said, these are more maintinence things, not a replacement for a doctor.

Do you drink water at all? If not, try drinking at least 8 glasses a day. The doctor could be right that the discharge is normal for you. A woman's system/body changes over the years. I never use to have any type of discharge when I was younger and now I do.

Avoid tights, jeans, bubble baths, vaginal deoderants/wipes and strongly scented soaps (if fact, it's best just to wash with water).
