Before I was pregnant I drank 5-6 cans of diet pop every day. Now that I'm pregnant (about 8 wks.) I stopped drinking pop with caffeine and now I'm drinking caffeine-free diet pop. I'm trying to find out if anyone knows if the aspartame in the sweetners in diet pop is harmful to my baby. I don't have another appt. with my OB for a few weeks, but I still have to have my diet pop until I get some advice.

Asparatane is not good for people who are not pregnant, so, it would not be good for a person who is pregnant. Several cans of pop would definitely not be good.
My daughter always stops drinking diet drinks while pregnant.
Best thing is to ask your doctor.
I do know that caffeine-free drinks still contain up to 3% caffeine and cafeine does not have to be listed in the ingredients. I am highly allergic to caffeine and in the past checked with soft drink companies.

How about splenda? I heard this was OK to drink if you're pregnant. Dt. Coke now has splenda instead of aspartame. Is this safe or safer?

The jury is still out in regards to Splenda. Not sure if it is just a war between the sugar companies and Splenda or if there is merit in all of the hub-bub.
The phophorous in soft drinks are not good for any of us, leaches clacium from bones.
