First, what is the max tylenol daily intake for long-term users? I know it's 4,000 but that's just short-term use, right?
Second, Has Oxycontin ever been reccommended for SA use?? I don't think so but I want to be sure before I make my next comment.
Thanks, Mush

I’m not Dave and I hope you don’t mind me answering part of your question. :) The Oxycontin is the L.A. version of Oxycodone.
Roxicodone is the SA for oxy on the higher end. (10 to 30 mg every 4 hours) No Tylenol.

I know this. I was asking if at any time it had been used as a short acting(even though it's la).
I seriously doubt it but wanted to make sure before I rant...
I just got done reading Montel's newest book. I used to like him because he advocates for MS patients(my niece has ms) and people with chronic pain. He goes on and on in his book about research and knowing what you're talking about.
Then he mentions that he took Oxycontin for his pain...'2 every 4 hours as it was perscribed' !!! He goes on to say how horrible this drug is. It fogged his brain and it's incredibly addicting(doesn't make any distinction between dependency and addiction) and after taking handfulls of it daily he had to stop.
How can I believe anything he says now??? And millions of people will read that and believe every word!!! Another example of people making it hard for those of us who take Oxycontin responsibly and who are actually helped by it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :blob_fire Can you tell I'm angry?
I'm trying to find one intelligent person who has written something that is not outrageous and media driven. I just finished another book called "Pain Killer" and it was mostly the history of Purdue and Oxycontin(Dave you might enjoy that one). The rest was how this girl became addicted to oxy and yada, yada, yada. All the responsibility is on Purdue....not the mother who let this girl run around with guys who did drugs and never did anything to get her to stop or the girl herself. AARRGHH!
Why can't they do like they did with Talwin and make it so Oxy's don't work if you crush them??? I can't remember what they put in it(naxalone?) but...why wouldn't that work?
Sorry, to ramble. Thanks for listening. ~Mush

Hey Mush, I can't think of a reason why Montel would take 2 oxyContin every 4 hours of any strength. I think many people now quickly associate Oxycodone with OxyContin. Perhaps the editer poofed it up when Montel turned in a manuscript that said he took two Oxycodone tabs, just a guees, but I do think with the media attributing Hundreds of deaths to oxy but they don't distinguish between percs, roxi, ylox or oxyc, nor does the DEA when they find Oxy in someones blood or stomach or urine. Without finding the ghost pills it would be very dfficult to tell what oxy product the people that died took, they also fail to mention most deathes were a poly drug combo and/or alcohol was involved involved in over 90% of those cases. Couldn't have been the 4mgs of Xanax and chuging a 5th of Jim Beam on top of oxy, It was Oxycontin.
They put naloxone in talwyn creratingTalwyn NX, naloxone is "Narcan" used to reverse opiate effect due to it's opiate antagonist action. Purdue tried it and couldn't find a math equation that would work with their sytem, It basically stopped the anelgesia properties of OxyyC so they threw up their hands and said it couldn't be done withut spending hundreds of millions for a completely new delivery system and drug. Then took the stand that Oxycontin doesn't kill people, Oxycontin abusers are no different than any drug abuser and risak teir life all the time. When used properly and safely it's a great drug and they stand absolutely firm that it last 12 hours.
As faras daily apap for chronic use, they say cut the 4k in half, 2000 mgs per day. Which puts Norco's max dose at 6 a day, 1 every 4 hours for prolonged use. I think most of us have all exceeded safe apap intake and are lucky. If we check a liver transplant forum I'm sure you would learn all about Toxicity levels of apap and how the liver works. Also how the silicates in both apap and IBU damge the kidneys and can cause death.
It takes sveral thousand grams "a couple pounds" of combined OTC apap and IBU but when you go through bottles of 500 every few weeks, it's not that hard. The lethal dose of apap is supposed to be 10K mgs, but I'm sure folks have pushed that envlope too.
Take care, Dave

Drew, not a problem! No worries! OK?
And Shore, even if it was a typo it still irritates me....if research and details are so important to him, he(or his editor) should have caught it.
We don't need anymore bad press. Am I right?
Thanks for listening. ~Mush

No worries! :)
I agree about no more bad press!! I was amazed at how many internet articles I have read with such negative false information.

You know, a lot of people mistake oxycodone for oxycontin. It's one of the reasons I stopped telling family what medicines I am on. My husbands family was scarring my children telling them I was taking oxycontin and that it was a bad drug because people got addicted to it. (I take 30mg oxyfast every 4 hours). They even got my husband thinking I couldn't take care of the children because I was on Oxycontin. They would call me every time they heard something on the news about it or read something in the paper about it. There is always a never ending supply of bad press on Oxycontin. They just didn't understand that I was on oxycodone and not oxycontin. I even tried explaining it to them. In fact, I told them that people abused oxycontin by crushing it and snorting it. I take a liquid version of oxycodone and it would be damn hard to snort it. LOL. But if they wanted to try to snort it I would supply it for them. LOL. Before anyone flames me for that statement, I really wouldn't supply it. Well, the bottom line is, people are going to believe what ever they want to believe and until the media educates itself about the drug and the differences in the forms of oxycodone and dependence and addiction we will always have idiots making stupid statements. I'm all for the war on drugs but they need to leave the chronic pain patients alone. I think there are sufficient rules in place in CP clinics and there are very few addicts in CP clinics, in my opinion. I really can't see anyone going thru everything we have to endure to receive a months supply of medicine. I had several invasive tests and injections before being prescribed my medications and I really don't see anyone putting themselves through that for pills. I guess I could be wrong, but I know I wouldn't have gone through all that to get my medications.
Well, take care.
God Bless,
Sherry

I know, Sherry, I know. I think it's got to be a combination of the bad patient and the bad doctor because no serious addict is going to go through all the crap we do(ok they're probably out there)...they can probably find a doc who will just perscribe when you say ouch. jmho!!!
I'm trying to get the image of a little tiny woman(that's you) trying to snort oxyfast through a straw!!!!LOLOLOL
Is it red? They always seem to make the liquid stuff red. I suppose it tastes horrid too. Do you have to mix it to get it down?? I'm just glad there's something out there for you that's easier on your stomach. Too bad there's not an oxycodone cream. My hubby supposed to get some cream from the compounding pharmacy that will magically take away his foot and ankle pain. Unfotunately it $70 so we have to wait until payday to get it!
Take care. Hope you're having a good week. ~Mush
