im just curious of a few things...would having a white headed pimple on base of penis that didnt hurt the least bit and it left a scar thats been there for three months be very uncharacteristic of herpes....doc even said it didnt look like herpes and she was certain it wasnt but she saw it 10 days after it appeared so it had already went down. so im not sure how she would know that.....i am also wondering how accurate a blood test done at 3 weeks and 5 days after exposure would be?? it came out negative and i plan on getting another and i think am suffering anxiety over this...its all i think about...thanks

Hey,
Canīt tell you about the pimple, it could be anything. Diagnosing herpes visually is very unreliable. The only sure way to know is having a swab done, aspa when a blister or lesion is there. Even then there are possibilities for false negatives.

Herpes manifests in so many ways that it is almost impossible to make a diagnosis visually, as I said. You do need to take a blood test, and it should be a type specific Igg blood test (the Igm one does not show you type and is more unreliable in other ways too). You need to wait 12-16 weeks post exposure to get tested, anything done before can and probably will give you a false negative, should you be positive. It takes time for the body to build antibodies, hence the wait.

I know youīre probably worried, but right now all you can do is try to calm down, take care of yourself, go see a doctor asap if you have something to swab, ask for antiviral if you have symptoms and wait to get the blood test done.

Good luck!

one more thing...the one im worried about is hsv1...i made out heavily with a girl then recieved oral...so wouldnt it appear more likely in the mouth since that is where it likes to manifest itself

Well, one would think that. But herpes is a tricky virus, there is no telling where it will settle down. A lot of people catch genital hsv-1 from oral sex, but never show any signs of oral hsv-1. They could have it orally too, but also just genitally. Itīs hard to tell, a blood test positive for hsv-1 wonīt tell you location, a swab obviously would.

Many people think that if they got hsv-1 genitally that they should have had an oral ob as well. Still many doctors say that they very rarely see hsv-1 occure simultaneously in both the genital and oral region. Obīs at different times would be more common.

Make any sense :)?

To answer your original question, though--it would be pretty uncharacteristic of herpes, and there are many other possibilities. If your dr said what she thought it wasn't, didn't she say what she thought it was? No ideas at all? Maybe you need a different dr?

she said it was most likely a pimple...it was down towards the bottom of the shaft where they would likely occur....it also left a purplish scar which i heard was very seldom with herpes.....i really appreciate your input and any others i would as well....well thanks again

I've had different bumps, zits, ingrown hairs in the lower region and it seems the more I try to open them or mess with them, the more of a scar they leave behind. And it's usually a purple bruise. Maybe, leaving them alone - is the best idea. Oh yeah, none of these have had anything to do with my genital herpes. Just thought I would share....

Yep, you can have a garden variety of zits, bumps etc down under, sometimes itīs very hard to tell whatīs what.

But since you are already concerned about hsv, I would take the blood test in the 12-16 slot, just to know for sure. It wonīt hurt and it will be the responsible thing to do. At least then youīll know for sure and can proceed accordingly in the future. Donīt out your head in the bushes, many people are too scared to get tested and hence spread hsv. Closing your eyes isnīt going to make it go away.

Chances are good that youīll be negative and then you can put this behind you. But even in that situation youīll already have lots of knowledge about hsv and can take care of yourself better in the future, and hopefully be very understanding and accepting if someone in the future would tell you they have hsv.
