Good Morning! This is my first month on nuvaring, actually it's the first time I've ever even been on b.c. I was experiencing some spotting and then it became more like breakthrough bleeding. However, I'm taking this month's ring out on Sunday morning, and it seems like the bleeding is becoming more like a light period as the days get closer to Sunday. Has anyone experienced this with the nuvaring? with first time birth control, in general? Will this breakthrough bleeding continue as the months go on? I'm sure you can appreciate the fact that blood on the sheets after sex with my boyfriend when i'm not on my period is a pain the deal with, and needless to say embarassing. (it doesn' bother him since this has only happened once or twice, but i get embarrased and i think it'll start testing both of our nerves if it is recurring) Also, the fact that summer is here and I have some light colored bathing suits; I don't want to have to be worried or constantly using tampons for fear of breakthrough bleeding while wearing my bikinis. Any advice/experience/stories would really be helpful thanks!!

From what I understand, that is very very common with the ring and not real temporary either. Good luck.

Spotting and irregular periods are common when starting any form of birth control. The spotting can last several cycles, but usually stops after a few months of perfect use (or less!).

i was on nuvaring for months and the breakthrough bleeding never stopped. i went off that to seasonale and breakthrough bleeding on that is non stop as well. both of these are great in theory but not in reality.

i am now considering going off everything for a few weeks and restarting a regular 21 day cycle pill again. i'm just afraid the migraine will be a killer...

Hello,
I have been on the nuvaring for two months after having a baby in March. The first month I had breakthrough bleeding bad. It drove me crazy because my husband is really grossed out by any natural female act and I was always trying to convince him that nothing was happening down there. After the first three weeks it stopped and I haven't had any problems since. I even put the second months ring in after 3 weeks of having the first ring in so I wouldn't have a period. (My doc said it would be o.k. if I did that from time to time.) Hopefully it will work out for you. I could never remember to take the pill everyday. JZ

Thanks everyone! The breakthrough bleeding has now ceased, as I'm into my second week with the new ring. I'm excited that I haven't had any issues this second month, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it remains this way from now on!!
