My mother is 58 years old. She is at least 50 lbs. overweight, diabetic, and is on high-cholesterol and high-blood pressure medication. She also smokes and is not very active. She had four children, the last one in 1969 (me). She has a history of uterine fibroid tumors, but I don't think they have ever been treated. I don't think she's been through menopause yet. She told me that she used to use and IUD, but had it removed when she found out it might punture her uterine wall--I don't know the dates of that. Her periods have always been heavy and uncomfortable, but recently she has been bleeding nonstop for almost two months straight now. She keeps putting off going to her gyno for whatever reason. Her mother recently died of breast cancer, and she had an aunt that died of ("blood cancer?"), but there's no other cancer history in her family. What could be causing the excessive, constant bleeding? Any ideas I can pass along to her to hasten her visit to her gynocologist would be most helpful. Thanks so much!

Your mom should really be seen by a physician. I don't know how common it is to not have gone through the change at age 58, but certainly this prolonged bleeding is something she should have checked out. Could just be her hormones out of whack. Try to convince her to go....if anything for peace of mind for her and you. Things probably won't correct themselves until she seeks help.

The same thing is happening to me. I've been bleeding and bleeding ever since Christmas with only what seems like a couple of weeks not bleeding since then. I'm going Wednesday to the doctor. I had a D & C about eight years ago and they remove a polyp. I was having bleeding between periods then, but it was nothing like this. I'm 47 now, so I'm hoping it has something to do with menopause.

I would have gone to a doctor long time ago. Two months of non stop bleeding I would be concerned of dying from anemia. Hemorrages are dangerous and need to be checked out promptly.

Last year in March I started and I went for 3 months non stop. my gyn did a biopsy and interuteran ultasound I thought I was going to die from the pain from the biopsy. I was hemmoraging when it was being done he had to suctionoff the blood before he could do it about 3 of theose puke pans from the hospital. anyway everything came back ok. now I am having problems again . I am just 37. anyway your mom definately needs to be checked. please try to get her to be seen. I was bleeding so bad when I would stand up it would make puddles of blood on the floor. I was anemic from loss of blood. I also am a diabetic and have high cholesterol. my gyn said that uncontrolled sugar will also make you do that. I hope everything turns out alright.

Hypothyroidism can cause excessive bleeding. So getting this checked may be a good idea "just in case".
