hi, i've been on estrostep for about 4 months. i had pretty sore breasts in the beginning & then some occasional soreness since, but not too bad. yesterday when i woke up i noticed some pain in my right breast. its not the soreness i had experienced in the past, its more like a dull pain localized to 1 area on the outer side. i thought maybe i had pulled a muscle cleaning the day before. but its still there & i'm a bit concerned. i dont feel a lump or anything & it doesnt hurt when i touch it...its just a constant dull pain. so i guess i'm just wondering if anyone else has experienced this while on birth control pills. my mom had breast cancer & she had pain & no lump. i know the best thing to do would be to see my dr. & if this continues past today i will make an appointment. i just wanted to see if anyone else has experienced this. thanks for any help!

Breast tenderness is a side effect of birth control pills. So is DVTs. I don't know much about DVT's but that they are serious and require immediate attention. With all birth control pills, there is a risk, although slight, of DVT.There is a higher risk of developing one when you are pregnant. I would call your doctor's office - they should have an answering service that will page the on call doctor. The part of your message that is concerning me is that it is localized pain on one side.
I maybe over reacting but DVT's are serious. Please keep us posted.

DVTs occur in the deep veins. There aren't deep veins in the breasts, so DVTs do not happen in the breasts. However, Pulmonary Embolisms can, which is when a piece of a clot breaks off and travels to the lungs, lodging itself there. Symptoms of that include pain upon inhalation, sharp chest pain, shortness of breath, and coughing up blood. It doesnt sound like that's what the poster has, thankfully. :) If the breast pain continues, certainly see your doctor, but it could just be pill-related breast tenderness. :)

aaahhhhhh....scary stuff! well i woke up this morning & the pain seems to be worse. its just so weird because when i get soreness, its always both breasts & the entire breast. my body still hasnt fully adjusted to the pill yet. every month so far i have started spotting on day 8 of my pills. day 8 for this pack is tomorrow so i'm not sure if this is just soreness associated with the fact that i'm expecting spotting for a few days starting tomorrow. but again...i'm concerned that its only 1 breast & just on the outside, by my arm. i was kinda hoping that someone on this board would say, oh that happened to me! but i'm getting sort of nervous now that i'm not hearing that from anyone. i will definitely call my dr. i'll keep you posted...

I have breast soreness too and it's always worse in one breast than the other, used to only happen at certain times of the month not last through the entire month thank god, however now that I"m off the pills I'm hoping it goes away!

thanks everyone. i called my gyns office today & they said that my dr will call me 1st thing monday morning & i guess she'll squeeze me in if she feels its necessary. i'm hoping its just a pill side effect but i guess you can never be too careful...especially after what happened to my mother. the pain is worse now than it was this morning...getting progressively worse each day since it started thursday. its just so weird because when i had soreness in the past it would hurt to touch them. this doesnt...its just this constant annoying pain and i can squeeze it with no soreness. i'm totally freaking out! any additional posts would be greatly appreciated. i'll let you know what happens monday...

ok so i have an appt with my gyn tomorrow afternoon. the pain is worse each day. i did start having breakthrough bleeding yesterday (on day 8 of my pack as i expected) so i'm hoping it just has to do with that. but starting yesterday i've been getting this weird cold feeling inside my breast where the pain is. its very strange....it kinda feels like i have an icepack on it. anyone ever experience this????? i'm freakin out super bad now!!!

This soreness has happened to me before and I freaked out too as I had missed the first active pill of the pack. Although I had doubled up and did what I was supposed to do in this situation, during the end of the second week of my cycle and beggining of the third week, I experienced the soreness in my breasts and thought it might be a sign of pregnancy. I had an appointment with my doctor and the test for pregnancy came back negative and she said that it was the hormones that was causing the soreness and if it reaches an unbearable level, we'll discuss switching me to another BC. That was last month and until now, I haven't had the soreness again. But the way you describe it seems to be much worse than what I experience, as I was uncomfortable but you seem like you are in pain. I would suggest having the discussion with your doctor about the switch.

i saw my dr. she said she didn't feel anything & if its still bothering me in a month to go back for some tests. it still hurts like heck but i feel better knowing that someone who knows what to feel for didnt feel anything!

also she switched me to ovcon 35. maybe that will help with everything else...

Hey, Allison, FYI - When I first was on ovcon, my boobs got bigger (C to D). At times they were pretty sensitive, but they didn't hurt.

Aaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhh kitty...... i'm already a D. i dont need to get any bigger! did they stay a D or did they chill out after a while? when i 1st started estrostep my boobs got a little bigger but now i think they seem normal...either that or i just got used to them.

Try to calm down, it might not happen to you. This time around on it mine only went from a 36C to 38C. :( I miss my D's, and my husband loved them. :) Although they probably would look funny on me now that I'm skinny. But, to answer your question, after I lost weight they did go down to a low D or a high C. BTW, when I started this pill the first time, I was overweight. However, I didn't gain any more weight being on it, not at that time anyway. The only thing that got bigger was my boobs. I wish I could say the same for this time. I've had to buy slightly bigger clothes. :(

Allison I suffered from severe breast pain very similar to what you describe - on the outer side of my left breast only - for years before a doctor recommended Evening Primrose Oil. After taking a high dose for a while, the pain subsided, and I tried stopping taking the Evening Primrose Oil once and the pain came back with a vengeance. Whether I am on contraceptive pills or not doesn't seem to make much difference - I guess my hormones are weird anyway. By the way, the active ingredient is GLA. Definitely worth a try.

thank you kerryv. i'll give it a shot! the pain just isnt going away. i'm hoping its just this dumb pill i'm on. this is my last week on it thank god! i've had breakthrough bleeding for the last 10 days! i cant wait to start my new pill! but in the meantime i'll give the EPO a shot. i used to take that for eczema. can i ask...how much should i take a day?
