Hi there I was wondering if anyone can help,in last 5weeks I have had 2 episodes of angioedemia(swelling of lips and tip of tongue)the first of which was pretty frightening.I have been lucky so far that it is only the extreme tip of my tongue and especially lips that have really swollen up ,so far I have not required emergency hospitilisation but I have had to have 2 injections of an antihistamine to help.So far no cause has been found can anybody help me with some info out there, thanks paolo.

Sounds like maybe a seafood allergy...did you eat shellfish or salmon?

You may want to get a food diary, to try and help identify what you are allergic to, also. And keep benadryl with you at all times...just in case (liquid would probably work faster than tabs).

Also, it might be fruits of some sort...strawberries are the first that come to mind as being a common offender...

That happens to me from time to time, I had it pegged to apples and carrots. I am allergic to them!! I also get a tingly sensation in my mouth and my thoat closes up a tad with other things. I would day an allergy, I went to the doctor about it and she sent me to an allergist. I get my first set of shots on MON. Good Luck!! :)

thanks for all replies so far,i don't think it is seafood allergy as i never eat shellfish or any similar products and i did not have tuna or salmon around time of swelling.Doctor is unsure if cause but says stress might be a factor and she also suspects i have thrush in mouth which might be irritating things.

I have a similar (but not so dramatic) predictable reaction to any citrus containing foods, especially Oranges, Grapefruits, etc.
Good luck with your quest for a source, and maybe see an Allergy Specialist?

Food allergy? I knew someone who got that reaction when he ate MSG. You know, like at a Chinese restaurant that says "Oh no, we never use MSG" but they do anyway.

Some 12-15 years ago I had similar problems, lips would swell, burn. peel, split and bleed.
Potato chips were one cause - later found sodium benzoate was the culprit. it's a perservative in root beer, even toothpaste. Reading ingrediant labels and avoiding anything with sodium benzoate cured the problem for me.
