Finally some success!!! Hx: Had CT scan done and took it to Dr. He could not see anything on it and said there is nothing I can do. Suggested PM Dr. which would take 3 to 6 months to get appt. He also suggested MRI which would take 3 months to get appt. I called MRI dept. one day in tears from pain and they got me in that day.
This past Monday I had an appt. to see Dr. (orthopedic surgeon). I came in sitting sideways on a wheelchair and moaning in pain. He looked at the MRI and said, "Oh look at this, we need to get you in to the hospital right away. You have a huge herniation at L5-S1". He admitted me right away as an emergency patient. It's funny because the first time I saw him and asked him for some Percocet for pain he said, "Oh no, I can't write an Rx for those because they are too strong. If you want some you will have to try your family Dr." This time around when he wrote the orders for the hospital he says, "I'm writing an Rx for Percocet, 2 tabs every 4 hours, and make sure that they don't let you go any longer than 4 hours".
My surgery was done a couple of days later. When I was in the OR just before they put me out I heard the Dr. talking to the Asst. and he said something about this being a little difficult to get to because it has herniated into the spinal canal. That kind of freaked me out.
The next day, when he came to see me he said that the MRI didn't show everything that was happening and that the surgery took longer than expected and that "I need not concern myself with that now". I would like to know exactly what went on in there and I may press him about it when I see him for F/U.
Surgery went GREAT and I was up to the bathroom about an hour post op. I got to go home the next day as he was so pleased with my ambulation. So I am now 36 hours post op and feel great!!! No pain, just a bit sore around the incision site. I am so thankful for the staff at the hospital for getting me in right away otherwise I would still be lying on the couch unable to move. I'm going to send them a thank-you letter.
This message board helped me through the roughest 3 weeks of my life. Reading everyone's posts kept me going and made me feel not so alone. Being able to write some of my frustrations helped to alleviate some of the stress. I thank you all for reading and for sharing your stories. I will keep on reading and replying to you and I wish everyone the same success that I have had....God bless. :)
