I think these kinds of posts are a bit useless because everyones metabolism and stuff is different and why does anyone care to read what others eat? To compare?

Sheesh. This will probably turn into a comparing or bragging (look how little and how healthy "I" eat) type of thread. :(

Can't we be less obsessed with food all the time?

well this is the diet and nutrition board. lol. and sorry i just get curious what other ppl from across the world eat. haha

I understand you point sugar babygirl, but i disagree a little. I don't think people will use this to necessarily brag or anything..most people here are secure with what they eat and the amount, so seeing what someone else eats shouldnt bother them (if it does, speak up!).

I think this tpe of post may be helpful to some who either eat too much, eat too little, or just don't eat helathy in general. For example, when missmanda05 posted, everyone can clearly see that she needs to eat more, period. This may help her to achieve and maintain a healthier weight, and may help her to see that food isn't the enemy! It is also a way to share recipes or food ideas for others to try.

No one is making you post here, so don't feel obligated just because it's there! Usually these posts dissapate in a couple days to a week or two, so it likely won't be around LONG. :)

VERY well said girlygirl. Please explain to me Sugarbaby how this thread is related to bragging and competing. This IS the diet and nutrition board and Sammy's post was valid and personally, I like threads like this cause sometimes I generate and apply some of the ideas from other's eating habits. :) It's YOUR choice about how you eat and YOUR choice weather or not you want to participate according to the subject. Please don't take this harshly but I hate when people get offended by something in which may affect how others may want to post. ANd you said "WE" are obsessed with food, well everyone has different intentions and goals and it doesn't necessarily mean that we are going to copy what everyone eats, but many people enjoy reading about how others eat maybe for new ideas, or just plain old entertainment and curiosity. It's not about "bragging" or "comparing"(maybe to some, but prolly a VERY few, and that never even crossed MY mind.) I know we all have different metabolisms and we should know ourselves what types of food that suit us, so like I said it YOUR choice. I'm sorry but I HAD to reply to this post because I think that your impression to the meaning of this post is wrong. And your opinion is valid(because it's YOUR opinion) along with everyone's opinon so don't get me wrong, but I personally couldn't help to state mine. And, I know that we can all state our own opinions because that's only one aspect of what these threads are all about! :)

BTW, I'll post what I ate later. :D

I like reading these posts. It's interesting to know what others eat and it helps me to know whether or not I'm doing ok with my eating. I think I am. I get around 2000 cals a day now. More than what I used to (I'm a recovering anorexic). I've gained 8 pounds in the last 2 months and I weigh 100 now which is ok for my height, I'm 5 feet tall. I try to eat pretty healthy and I get plenty of exercise. I do pilates and yoga and I also walk everyday as long as the weather permits. I still have a ways to go before I can say I'm completely recovered though. I still freak out at times when I think I've eaten too much and I'm still consciously aware of the calories I consume, which I shouldn't be. But I'm making progress :)

This kind of thread can be helpful as long as we keep in mind that we are all different. What one person eats can't be used as a cookie cutter for others to follow. Our exercise habits, genetics, emotions, metabolism, etc. play a HUGE role when you talk about diet and nutrition. And Girlygirl, people won't admit it like you did, but there's definitely some competition on a certain level. We all judge each other; that's our human nature. Good call on that one.

If I were to list what I eat on a regular basis, you would all picture a whale of a person and make a point to tell me that I need to cut my calories and not eat so much. What you wouldn't know though is that I also run 18-20 miles a day. Get my point?

Keep in mind too that all of our goals are different. When people see the word "diet" they imm*****ely think "weight loss". I commend this site for having made the distinction.

I personally think it would help if we included more information instead of just what we eat... that's my two cents!

Everybody take care!

So far today....

Breakfast
2 Nectarines
1 1/2 cup Activia Yogurt

Going to have lunch now. Will edit after.
Where do you get that Activia Yogurt btw? You said it has a lot of the friendly bacteria. I think your a health professional(you said in another post about a diabetic patient, I THINK) and wanted to know if Kefir is better or just as good as yogurt. what do you think.

tdot
05-26-2005, 02:13 PM
I buy Activia yogurt at the grocery store. I love the taste of it, especially the prune flavor. It is a bit higher in fat - 3% M.F, but I just love it and it guarantees 1 billion active bacteria (Bifidobacterium lactis) per serving which is what is recommended per day.

I don't know a ton about Kefir. Both yogurt and kefir are cultured milk products, and offer probiotic benefits. I have read support from both sides. Some people say yogurt (specifically yogurts which have various types of bacteria) is best, some think Kefir is best. Personally I just LOVE the taste of the Activia probiotic yogurt and it gives me the healthy bacteria I need.

Activia is a Danone product and there is a website. You should check it out (I would give it to you, but now allowed, use search engine).

Hope this helps!

Not sure if this is the right place, I'm in my early teens and am looking to lose weight (been ticked off for already posting my age and also, I know this is not the weightloss board) and am wondering if this is acceptable what I have ate today.

Morning:-

Three Weetabix with Banana slicing for breakfast. Glass of Orange.
Apple with Water.

Afternoon:-

Had a Chicken Sandwich. This is why I'm worrying, it was 500 calories!
Had a banana as well an hour after lunch.

Snack:-

Another apple.

Dinner:- (this is where I'm mainly worried)!

Think I had around three potatoes (had bout 7 or 8 small halfs etc, so around three large sized potatoes) and quite alot of scampi (yes, I know my working out isn't great), around ten small circle pieces. From the box they seem quite fatty. Had a low-fat yoghurt afterwards.

This is all I will eat tonight. Can anyone give suggestions (basically, if all is well, I will have the same sort of layout as I have had today in future dates. I have the same breakfast every day, would cut down on that if necessary and always have sandwiches at lunch time) if this is too much for my age? I'll give you a clue, low teens, and has a four in it ;)

My breakfast usually consists of about 1.5 cups of cereal, 1/2 cup cottage cheese (lf) and fruit (banana or apple or something) but this morning it was a little different b/c I felt like I was going crazy on the carbs lately.
Breakfast: Banana and apple cut up in lowfat cottage cheese
Lunch: Falafel wrap from whole foods - flour tortilla, lettuce, carrots, tzatiki yogurt sauce, 3 falafel balls (made out of garbanzo beans) - is this healthy?
Snack: orange, 6 mentos (10cals each), baby carrots with salsa, soy crisps (80 calories worth)
Dinner: Chopped chicken salad with nonfat honey mustard dressing (lettuce, olives, tomatoes, basil and chicken)
Dessert: up in the air
Thoughts? Advice?

Yes it does help, thank you!!! :)

Hey sammy...the marg i had was TRANS fat free...so its not fat free, it just doesnt have the BAD trans fats. It still is basically all fat. But you should definately allow yourself some. It really does change the flavour of things, and everyone needs fat to be healthy!!!

LS- you day is really good, but still on the light side! Don't be afraid to have more fat, because you are definately lacking in that area too little isnt good either!). Make your dessert anything you want! Maybe you could make cupcakes from scratch, or a fruit salad with some fresh whipping cream or ice cream, etc.

Mmm- cupcakes from scratch. Haha. I made cookies from scratch the other day and they were absolutely amazing.
I don't consider my days to be "light", but maybe that's because I am so used to eating healthy. I felt like I overate yesterday (and eating too many carbs still bothers me) so today this is what I've had so far to compensate:
Breakfast: Venti latte (200), Luna bar (180)
Snack: Banana (100)
Late lunch/snack at 2:30: Pretzels (230) string cheese (80) and cottage cheese (80)
Dinner: going out - we will see....

Again, can someone tell me if I'm going the right way about my diet:

Breakfast:
Three Weetabix, with a cut banana inside. Orange juice.

Snack:
Pack of dried fruit (banans, sultanas etc).

Lunch:
One Ham sandwich, Orange Juice and an apple.

Snack:

A Jam sandwich (the bread was only 96 calories, so only think it'll be around 200 altogether)

Dinner:

Half a ham sandwich, half tuna. Coca Cola.

lol I didn't realize how it sounded. They're just the name of the cookies..kinda sweet and crunchy, by Peek Freans. They're really good- I doubt they actually have any ties to actual digestion, but I think they just market them like that, so they seem healthier..

Hey everyone! I went on vacation over the weekend. We went to Hannibal, MO and went through the Mark Twain cave and did a bunch of other stuff. It was fun but I ate like crap all weekend. Oh well, I was on vacation ;) . I got TONS of exercise though so that helped. I'm getting back on track today. So far this is what I've had...

Breakfast:
Cup of oatmeal with sugar free maple syrup and a little bit of brown sugar and skim milk
Banana
2 cups of coffee

Snack (small snack):
4 dried plums

Lunch:
Haven't had yet but I'm thinking a PB&J sandwich on ww bread, cottage cheese, and some baby carrots or maybe a grilled chicken salad.

I'll post the rest later today. I'm really trying to stop counting cals and just focus on eating healthy. I swear I'm like a human calculator! When I had my ED I memorized the cals in so many things and it's hard now to just forget about that and not worry about how many cals I'm consuming. I know I never usually go over 2000, I'm usually a bit under that and I do need to start getting more healthy fats because I get very little fat. I'll admit...I'm still a little bit afraid of fat. I was just petrified of it for so long and it's just hard to all of the sudden start eating again. I am doing alot better that I was though. I weighed 92 pounds and I'm up now to 101 or 102. So I've gained around 10 pounds and I feel great! I feel healthy and so much better than I did before and I also look a whole lot better. According to most charts at 5'1" my ideal weight is 105 so I would like to get up to that. Please feel free to give me any tips/advice on my eating habits.

Snack: Whey protein shake with tbs of flaxseeds

Okay I'll tell ya, I had constipation and drank this chinese tea, it helped, but now my stomach is hurting pretty bad like it didn't help ALL the way. Can't really explain it well, I dunno. All I know is that I didn't work out for 3 days and it's killing me. :(
