Am I behind the times or what? Just saw an ad for One A Day vitamin that now has Polycosinal in it for cholesterol and BP. Next time I go to the store will have to look and see what it says.

I just read up on the One-A-Day Cholesterol Plus vitamin. It is not used to lower cholesterol or BP, only to supposedly maintain normal levels. It has Policosanol in it, but I guess not enough to treat the problem.
Probably just another way to raise the price and expect people to think if they use it, they will lower their levels. At least the site was honest and said it won't lower levels, that is a plus..... :)

JJ,
Yes, I could never quite understand all that jargon, either. To "maintain normal levels." Well, just what does that supposed to mean? If you already have normal levels, why would you need to take anything else to maintain normal levels? It makes me crazy just to think about it. Unless, of course, it actually does help, only the FDA prohibits them from making that statement.

Last week I saw a new liquid formula at COSTCO, I think it was called "Quell". It includes 40 mg of policosanol and plant sterols. I think policosanol is starting to become as popular as plant sterols.

Arizona...Your right, they are all making us CRAZY.... :dizzy: If Policosanol is used to lower cholesterol, then why wouldn't it work to lower "abnormal" levels, unless it is so weak it really is just a gimick. Like U, I think it is very confusing, and God only knows who is regulating the amount, that it just keeps normal levels "normal"....
Like anything, it is new and I guess time will tell if it is benifical for abnormal levels or not. Like everything...STAY TUNED!.... ;)

"To maintain normal levels" is in the same realm of jargon as "no drug has been shown to be better at...," "You will lose up to 5 pounds a week" or the ever popular
"It MAY cure!"
What they COULD add for honesty sake is:
"if you already HAVE normal levels"
"but it's STILL useless"
"however, most people lose only an ounce or two."D
"and you MAY win the lottery":D:D
