Hello
i was wondering if any of you focus and consume yourself in something like a hobby or reading or or watching tv to help cope with your depression. I personally will read non fiction books and research information on the net (just for pleasure) for hours and hours with a hobby that i am interested in. (like raising birds for example) anyone else do thingsl ike this to fcope? i find if o consume myself with something (as an obession) i kinda escape from my life for a bit. is this good?

Hi Poison,
I'm not sure if I am correct with this idea, but I believe if your "hobby" or "obsession" is not interfering with the things you should be doing, like work, family, etc., I think you are okay.
I myself, have another illness that causes mini-strokes, so I cannot work, and I fill my day with tv, music, and genealogy. Oh........and the obligatory petting of my cats.
What worries me is your depression. You said you used your "hobbies" to escape your depression. Does it help you escape??? Are you happy at those times? If so, then I think you have found a wonderful way to work around your depression, and survive. If you are unhappy while you are pursuing your hobbies, then you may need to get some help for your depression.
Hope this helps you.........
