View Full Version : Any gel to prevent Herpes transmission to partners?

I was wondering if any of you know a gel of any kind that will help prevent spreading Herpes on to non-infected partners? I would like to use this in conjunction with condoms.

I have heard of a product called "Freedom Pre-Fix: Invisible Condom" but it is not approved by the FDA and seems too good to be true?

Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

I have heard or read rather, on some websites that noxonol 9 (sorry I probably spelled that wrong) but you know what I mean, it's on some condoms and you can get it in a bottle too. Anyway, I read that it helps kill the virus if you are shedding at the time. I dont know how true this is, but thats what I saw. Perhaps you can to a search for yourself and see what you find on it.

Non-oxynol-9 is a spermicide. Some condoms are coated with a substance called Non-oxynol 9 which can irritate the inside lining. This irritation can make it easier for HIV to get into the bloodstream. For this reason condoms with Non-oxynol 9 are best avoided.

If you kiss or have sex with someone who is actively shedding the virus, you are going to be at risk of getting it yourself. There is no OTC or Rx product that will eliminate the risk. Valtrex can prevent an outbreak and reduct the duration. Zovirax ointment can also reduce the duration. OTC products like Abreva can also shorten the duration. Outside of trying to prevent outbreaks and shorten the duration, abstinence during the periods of outbreak is the ONLY 100% proven method to prevent transmission.

They are called "microbicides," but they are still in early clinical trials and won't be out for at least several years (if at all).
