View Full Version : A bit scared

Hi,

My name's Bobbie, I'm almost 18 and I've just started Uni this year. I'm a bit scared at the moment because I was referred to a hematologist because my platelet level has been mildly elevated and rising since 2003. I was told that it was 427 and now its 493 and I have no idea what that means. I'm set to have a bone marrow biopsy on Wednesday and I'm not really sure what's going to happen. My doctor said it could be 3 things, it could be nothing, it could be something called thrombocythemia, or it could be a form of luekemia (CML I think- does that sound right?). I don't really understand  but I'm a bit scared and I was wondering if there was anybody who knows more about this kind of thing or if there is anyone going through the same kind of thing?

Thanks,
Bobbie

yea i know i a little bit about this i had the same thing done to me about two years ago the only differnet is that my count were low and i have thrombocythemia there different kinds of this there ITP and TTP and TTP is one were platelet are low and i believe that ITP were platelet are high. if you do have this it could only be one time thing for me been only two times thing sometimes removal of the spleen help and some don;t have to because they did not take my spleen out don't worry every thing will be okay just believe and i hope i did not scare you

Thank you. I've just had my results back and the doctor said that there are no really bad abnormalities in my blood- I just have an elevated platlet count and my white blood cell count is also elevated. He said he'll just keep an eye on me, and that he will do routine tests every 6 months. So it sounds pretty okay! :) I hope everything will be okay with you veronica- and thanks to both of you.

Bobbie,
Glad your tests came back good. I also have high platelets 465 and an elevated wbc 14.8. I have an appointment the first week of June to see the hematologist. May I ask what your wbc is??
Thanks,
Christy

Hey guys, what's the deal? God did not give us a spirit of fear. I understand being concerned, but never be afraid. Fear has no room in a Christian. Also, quit saying "good luck" to each other. Luck has nothing to do with it. If we relied on luck, we would be in a world of hurt. Instead, rely on Christ. I too have elevated platelets and have CBC's every 10 days and had a marrow biopsy. Pray for the clean blood of Christ. He is sufficient.
