Hi Janet,
There was a thread a while back about candida yeast being a possible cause of FM. Just an FYI. As far as vaginal yeast infections - yup, I get them. I used to have a standing prescription for the pill for yeast infections - can't remember the name now. The infections have tended to calm down for me, thankfully. They're awful to have!!!
God bless, Jen

Acidophilis is used for treating yeast infection, you can get it in supplement form but be sure to get a good quality you can even get it in liquid form we used to give it to the grandchildren after rounds of AB, you really can't get enough just by eating yougurt and other sources high in acidophilis to get rid of the infection.
This may be TMI but my daughter use to get yeast infections so bad they would eat her panties and a NP told her to douche with pure yougurt and it would help and it did.
Funny I didn't see the thread but was just reading a book "The Yeast Conection" it's rather out dated but it has pretty much the same symptoms as FM, I wish I hadn't lost my mind I'd love to remember what I read.
Good luck with the yeast inf.

Yes!!!
This is me too. I get them a lot more frequently than I used to and it seems like I'm very prone to them, I've even gotten them on my skin. I've also come to find that these yeast infections are more stubborn. I used to be able to take one diflucan and within 12-24 hours, my infection was gone, now I have to take a big 250 mg pill wait several days and then take another one all the while using acidopholous and sometimes and OTC product too. It's frustrating to me (and my husband too as I'm either just getting over one or just getting one and they do interfere with spousal relations). I've had wet prep tests done and there's nothing else going on but I have made acidopholous a regular in my medicine/daily supplement routine just for extra measure!

i found if i eat one container of yogurt a day it keeps the yeast away. giggle, that rhymes. nothing else seems to really make a difference. i like yogurt so it is an easy preventative. also there are natural suppositories at your local co op or health store. i use them when i forget or cannot eat and the little yeasty monsters arrive.
bizarre these bodies of ours. hang in there. you will find the foods that restore your balance within.

I eat a lot of yogurt, probably 3 a day so I am always shocked when I get these infections. I also take acidolpholis daily and this still hasn't worked. I aslo have a standing scrip for diflucan.
So I am mistified and a little worried that I keep getting them.
My husband isn't to thrilled but understands. Hopefully in time they will go away.

janet,
do you still have your reproductive organs? if so cut back to one yogurt a day. the problem may be overkill. too much either way sets the body out of balance.
i hate the itching more than any other aspect.
i have been celibate for more than 4 years now and noticed they dropped of significantly. a warm water douch after sex may help. i did that when i was sexually active and it helped.
good luck sweetie. tell hubby to hang in there. have you had your hormone levels checked? not knowing your age i cannot say, however i noticed when i was doing the change of life, good ole menopause, bless her, i got more infections. then i went on estrace. it is a hormone suppliment made from yams. not pregnant mare urine. made all the difference in the world. now i only get them when on antibiotics.

I use to get them all the time, I really can't say why it stopped just happy they did.
But you know last year I went through a few months of having my blood work done because my pot. level was to high and after looking that up I found out that can be just as bad.

HI Janet,
I was just wondering if you've had any testing done to find a cause for these little monsters. I know that when I finally start complaining to my doc about not being able to get rid of them, they always test me for diabetes and my gyno will usually do a wet prep and test for the possibility of some other bacteria such as trich or even an undiagnosed STD. I hope you're doing well and I completely understand in the husband dept. No fun for them sure but definetely the worst for us (hubbies forget that sometimes!) My best to you! Let us all know how you're doing!

Argh! This has been driving me nuts, too. I use an anti itch cream for that area. :) And the supplements, too. The over the counter stuff doesn't seem to help. I also have PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrome) and am insulin resistant. Maybe that is part of the problem. Thanks for all the suggestions, posters.

Yes, I do have all my reproductive organs. I have the lab paper to go and have some blood drawn to see where my hormone levels are at. I believe my doctor has done tests re: bacterial infections.,,What is happening is that I am getting scarred from them, very odd. Then my doctor had to perform minor surgery to remove the inflamed and painfull tissue. This little minor procedure hurts alot since it is done in such a sensitive area. Takes a few weeks for it to heal and then it seems I get another on. I am 49, had stopped having my period 6 months ago, however, last month I got a period that was extremely painfull very, very heavy, and lasted for 12 days. Makes me a bit crazy, so, for sure I have to get my hormone levels checked. Tommorow I call the doc.
THanks everyone for your help. It always makes me feel wonderful when others care so much.
Peace and Love, Janet

My mom had yeast frequent yeast infections and i did too when I was in high school but haven't had one in a long time. I only use Ivory soap because Mom said to when I was having problems. I won't even use the soap in hotels, I bring my own Ivory.

It is so true that you have to use a soap that is for sensitive skin but with no perfumes, etc. I think one problem is that when I get these I were pads for the discharge and then it makes sores, sounds awful. I have been tested for all STD's just in case and nothing :bouncing:
Everyone who said I am in menopause I am sure is right, having my period through me off.
I will get my tests hopefully next week and let you know how it goes. I hope it is menopause, I am ready for the next chapter of my life. :D
You all are wonderfull.
Peace and compassion, Janet

Just a quick note. Yeast feeds on sugars, so cutting drastically back on sugar might help restore balance. Including corn syrup, dextrose, fructose, sucrose, all those sweeteners you find in most foods. I've had millions of yeast infections (well, almost constant) in the last 2 years. Miserable. I don't know for sure what made them go away, but am I ever thankful they're gone.
