ive been taking Valtrex for suppressive therapy and now I noticed that I have lost a patch of hair on my head. Ive read that hair loss is a side effect for some people which is not good :(. Does anyone know if my hair will ever grow back if i stop taking the medicine???
I dont know what to do. I need to take suppressive therapy because otherwise i get lots of outbreaks and i dont want to infect my boyfriend. Is there anything else that works like Valtrex but wont cause hair loss? What if i take acyclovir, does it have the same side effect? I'm only 19. who is ever going to want me if i am bald????? help :confused: :confused:

WhenI first started taking it I had hair loss. I went to my dr, he said well then stop taking it. Nice huh? So I went to my hairdresser, she siad we go through a natural shed/multing once or twice a year, she said deep condition and wait see if ti stops. If it gets bad, quit, but she siad to wait. It stoped, I was on for about 4 or 5 months before it really stopped. Now I have been on supressive for like a year if not longer, no problems, so I will never know if it was hte side effect or just that time of year like she said.

Iīve had lots of hairloss too lately and it worries me. But itīs not one spot, itīs general hairloss. Iīve been on supressives for just a short while, and the hairloss started way before. So I donīt think thereīs a connection. I think the hairloss is more due to stress, itīs said that the hairloss starts a bit after you have stress or an immune system problem. Iīm thinking thatīs my case. Trying to eat vitamins to feel better.
So perhaps this is your case too? Stress, perhaps due to your hsv? I want my hairloss to stop too, so I know how you feel!

Hi just wondering how the Hair loss is going for anyone on Valtrex etc. My hair is starting to thin because of it. Does it grow back after stopping the drug? I saw one post said it did. In addition, has any one tried Famvir as an alternate?
