i'm having sinus headaches over the last 2 months. pain starts from nose goes to ears and make me fell very uncomfortable,. my nose is clear and there are no signs of infection. went to an allergist who tested me for sesonal allergies and i tested postive for all of them. i tried taking sudefad but after 3 days got a backache, so i stopped taking it. now i'm using nasonex and astelin but they don't seem to be helping much. the last two days i started irrigating my sinusis which seemed to help a little bit
to be honest i try to keep to a normal schedule, but its very frustrating when you don't feel well
everyone tells me to have patince its allergy season, but my symtoms are a bit different
no sneezing, no runny nose just congestion etc...
any advice or encourgaement whould be appreciated

I don't sneeze or have a runny nose either. Irrigation will help you, and it will take some time for the Nasonex to start working. Has your allergist given you any prescription antihistimines? You really need to take one. Are you going to start allergy shots?

he gave me allerx which has a yellow pill for the morning and a blue pill for the evening
this is the problem i'm scared to take the morning pill because of the decongestant that it has , like i mentioned i took sudafed and got a bad backache
the night pill has a antihistiminte in it but i sleep fine so i don't really need it
my sinuses only bother me when i stand not whem i'm laying
please advice, why i would need an antihistimine if i don't have any running nose or sneezing

Hi
Wow ~ some of your stories sound so familiar and like my daughter's situation. She has no runny nose, eyes, or anything like that ~ She has tremendous headache pressure, feels terrible, nonstop constant cough. This has been going on for almost three weeks ~ She is on every med imaginable and then some. It is total craziness as nothing is helping her at all ~ She has gone through two rounds of antibiotic,
two rounds of Prednisone,
two shots of prednisone,
One IV Push of Steroid in ER,
Zyrtc D twice daily,
Astilyn & Flonase (I think) twice a day,
cough syrup every six hours,
Singulair once daily,
Nebulizer treatments every four hours,
and now Dr. wants her to take ANOTHER round of Prednisone!
We are searching for any help/info/guidance/suggestions to help her to feel better. Thanks
Oh, and I forgot she takes Advair 500 twice daily!

doodledeb,
my 2 year old has developed similar sinus problems (just like daddy). I've had to nebulize him (that's fun), give him multiple rounds of antibiotics, and now he is on Singulair. How old is your daughter?
I wouldn't use prednisone -the stuff is nasty.
Sinus problems are REALLY frustrating. I've been suffering for a couple years now, and even had to have surgery to correct a deviated septum.
It's like having asthma. It never totally goes away, because it is an inflammation problem, NOT an infection issue. Our immune system is out of whack.
But this can cause infection, simply because the sinuses don't drain properly.
I've had some success in the last year through a routine of irrigation using a machine, Allegra, immunotherapy (although I stopped this because my insurance no longer covers it), and occassional decongestants.
Astelin is a joke -it did nothing for me.
Nasonex helps a little bit.
The main thing is irrigation. I've been able to clear my last 3 sinus infections by using a solution of cool distilled water, 5ml of Alkalol, 3ml of hydrogen peroxide, and Xyletol. I use the peroxide for 3 days or until my nasal discharge is clear. Then I continue irrigating with water and Xyletol.
I'm doing this again, because I developed another infection after going to the Peter Murphy concert and breathing in smoke for 4 hours, not to mention all the alcohol, which swells the sinuses.
Antibiotics don't work for sinus infections. You feel relief from these simply because they have an anti-inflammatory effect that sometimes allows the infection to drain. The sinuses are bone, not standard tissue. Antibiotics have no way of getting in there. You have to treat the problem directly.
For anyone with severe sinus problems, I recommend getting a CT Scan to rule out any structural problems that might be causing a lack of drainage or blockage. If you have a blockage, it doesn't matter what you do, bacteria is going to fester in there.

If you tested positive for allergies then you need an antihistimine, to calm down the allergic reaction. Most likely, you don't have a runny nose etc, because your allergies have been uncontrolled for so long, the drainage has become very thick.

i was thinking that i don't need to take an antihistimine since i'm taking every day nasonex and astelin

please advice

is the astelin and nasonex enough or i should still take an antihistimine
is it safe to irrigate 2 a day

you need to take the antihistimine and decongestant IMO. My allergy doctor explained it this way: Until you get the gunk out, using the nose sprays don't do much good. It's like putting oil on water, the spray stays on the surface mucus rather than getting to the tissues where it will work.
