Hi, I've been suffering with this weird neck/upper back pain for the last 2 weeks. At first I thought I slept wrong, because I woke up one day with it. However, after a few days it didn't improve. Now its been a couple weeks and I'm still hurting. What the heck? When I sit still it feels like my upper back is aching a little. When I look down (like at my feet) it hurts a lot more (no duh, right?). In the morning I can barely look down at all, but it loosens up more during the day. I can only compare it to tightened muscles due to stress, but is it normal for it to suddenly appear one day like this? I'm going to get a massage, use a heating pad, and take ibuprofen. Has anyone else ever experienced this? The pain isn't too severe yet, but it is worsening and I'm getting pretty annoyed by the constant aching. [I'm extremely grateful for ANY feedback. PLEASE take a minute to respond if you've felt this way or have any advice. Thank you so much! :)

Hi LorieAnna

Welcome to the boards!

Yes, it is normal for a pain to start out of the blue. It happened to me. I woke up one morning and could not move my neck at all. I could not even get out of bed. My husband had already left for work, and I was paralized until he came home from work to find me that way. Needless to say, he rushed me to the hospital. I was diagnosed with two herniated disks in my neck.

I had to have both disks fused. I was in a lot of pain for many years, there are days when my neck feels normal and days I cry the pain is so bad.

You should see a doctor if your pain gets worse or over the counter meds aren't helping you. Keep us posted!!

Take care,
