Can anyone please describe to me how muscles become "weak" in a person with ALS. Is it that they start to shake when trying to use them? Or is it that they stop responding?

The reason I'm asking is that because my muscles have been shaking slightly for weeks and they are getting worse. I feel everytime I try to support myself by using my arms for example my body starts shaking, but in terms of strength I can still push very heavy objects and walk without stumbling.

I'm very worried that I have ALS because i've been getting headaches in the backward rightmost part of the brain and I have slight twitches allover my body including my lower eyelid and slight numbness sometimes in 2 of my fingers.

Can someone also tell me what being DX'd means?

Thank you very much.

Dear squall,
Hi. I wrote dx as an abbreviation for diagnose.I'm a slow typer and bad speller.
I'm not an expert ..I can just tell you about what is happening to me.I failed the strength test at my last neuro exam.I don't know if you have seen a neuro but they do simple tests to test strength that a healthy person should be able to pass.Things like just standing on your toes etc.
I also have swallowing proplems...I had a barium swallow test that also showed problems.
There are many ,many, reasons you can have mucle weakness, twitches , that are benign .....vitamin def., stress, medications,....many more.
I would see a neuro for peace of mind....I hope this helps...Laura
