Yesterday around noon time while at my desk i began to see a shimmering and flashing sensation in my right eye with a slight loss of vision. It lasted for about 20 minutes. I understand this is the onset of a migraine, but i did not have any of the symptoms of a migraine afterwords, ie: headache, nausea, etc. This also happened to me a week and a half ago, and about a month ago, again no migraine symptoms afterwords. Prior to these 3 occurances the last time i had this sensation was about 7 or 8 years ago while in high school and at that time i had the migraine symptoms afterwords. I'm a healthy normal 25 year old male and just had a eye exam about 3 months ago and passed with flying colors. Any suggestions why im getting these eye problems again???

You don't have to get the headache, I get that all the time, but NEVER a headache. It's very common for that to happen and not get the other symptoms. I am 46 and have been getting that on and off since I was 19!

Hi, I also get flashes of light in my eyes, sometimes it forms a complete zigzag. Mine usually last about 15 minutes. I find my eyes get more sensitive to light before the onset. I have asked about this many times over the five years I've had this and I have always been told it's a migrane. Sometimes, but not often, I do get a migrane after or during the lights. I find these eye flashes come if I am under a lot of stress or not enough sleep. I hope this helps make you feel better, I've always been told not to worry about it.

Nope, nothing to worry about! I used to get them every month for a while there in my 20's! It would be brought on by bright sunlight usually or florescent lighting.

thanks guys, that makes me feel better...a co-worker of mine did mention it has something to do w/ flourescent lighting too. And the past couple of times this has occurred its either been in flourescent lighting or walking outside from the dark into the bright sunlight.

Blaza: Although the flashing light seems to be in one eye, it is most likely in both. If it happens again close one eye, then the other. If you see it in both eyes, it's your brain that's doing the neuron dance. As the other posters said, it's nothing to worry about. When I was younger I always got the headache after the aura; now I can get the flashing lights without a headache.
