Has anyone been on the med called Bentyl for IBS? I am on the generic for of Bentyl.
I was prescribed this a few months back, but it did nothing for me. I was also dealing with gyno problems, so that is probably why. My Gi doc had put me back on this med a few days ago. I do feel a difference.
I would like to know if anyone else has been on this and has it worked for you??

hello, I have been on Bentyl (or generic form thereof) for 18 yrs. It works and sometimes it doesn't. I'm not very faithful about taking it before meals, so I try to do patchup work when "it" hits me. Also, I think that after all of these years I've become immune to it. My best results have come from a combination of changed diet, great fluid intake, excercise and relaxation.
There are several other drugs out there to help control IBS. If this doesn't work for you, be open with your GI doc.
Best wishes,
Rockie :p

Hello ,
I haven't posted in probably over a yr. but thought I should ..I have been taking Bentyl for over fifteen yrs. ( only when I can't take the pain) ( I hate to rely on meds), for me it doesn't take the pain away but it does dull it but it really depresses me, I guess maybe thats not the word that describes it but thats about all my brain can think of. As mentioned keep your fliud intake (water) up and also it seems to help for me to eat yogurt..But stress can really tear ya up..your not alone although sometimes I feel like nobody really understands...especially when thats not my only health problem.
Best wishes,
Marcy1 :p

I tried Bentyl (Bentylol here in Canada) last summer and it made me a total space case. I didn't notice much improvement at all, but I felt like I had a constant two-drink buzz. And I was only taking it once a day, not three times a day like I was prescribed. I stopped taking it after about two weeks because I couldn't think straight anymore. I don't even think I should have been driving, that's how weird I felt. The only good thing was that it improved my eyesight!

I was recently prescribed it - and I haven't had much success... maybe I'm taking in incorrectly? I was told to use it "as needed". So I've only started taking it when I feel "an episode" coming on - but unfortunately taking only 1 pill doesn't work. And the time I took 2 pills, it did help control the upset stomach but it caused severe nausea for hours afterward! ugh!
