Hi everyone,

I am brand new to this board. Hopefully you all can help me.

I have M.S and I am in a wheel chair.
I had a hot ember fall on my left foot back on Jan. 21st 2005. It burnt my big toe pretty bad. I believe it is/was a second degree burn. I clean it daily with H.P. and bandage it using a first aid salve. It was the size of a quarter to begin with and it has healed to the size of a dime. It won't heal anymore. There has recently been white skin around the burn. It doesn't hurt anymore than usual and it looks healthy......meaning no infection.

What should I do? Any suggestions/advise are welcome.

Thanks!

Trace

Go to see a doctor about your burn (preferably a plastic surgeon). Superficial second degree burns heal on their own. Deep second degree burns require grafting. If you have a wound that has not healed since January, you need to see someone about it. if it isn't infected now, it could get infected at any time if it is open. Even if you decline a graft, at least you will have all the knowlege to make an informed decision about your health.

Hydrogen peroxide is cytotoxic and shouldn't be used to clean any wounds. Burns heal best when kept in a moist, clean environment. I would recommend a thorough cleaning with lots of running water and then a nice covering of sterile vaseline gauze followed by a dry gauze dressing. Ideally, you should see the doctor.
