Hi-I have been wearing contacts for a little over a year. I got them because my eyesight was getting a little bit worse. Now, I kind of regret ever getting them. My eyes have become much less comfortable than they used to be. I have eye pain a lot which causes headaches, and my eyes are just not really comfortable now. For example, before I had contacts, if I was just sitting somewhere thinking, my eyes would be comfortable and feel normal. Now, I feel like they're jumping around and are unhappy with the focus. I saw my eye doctor about a month ago and told him this because I thought it was maybe that I had the wrong prescription lenses. He tweaked the prescription a little bit, but I still feel pretty much the same. This is a very annoying problem because its affecting all aspects of my life, including how I interact with people. I am trying to be positive and not focus on it because I realize that makes it worse, but I can't help but be botherered by it a lot of times. I feel like this is leading to anxiety in me because I am just not comfortable with how I feel. Any help would be appreciated a lot...thanks.

Hi Timtim. I'm sorry to hear about your contacts problem. I wore contacts for 10+ years and they became so uncomfortable that I had to stop completely. I found out recently that my corneas weren't gettng enough oxygen with my contacts in so they vascularized, or grew blood vessels in them (my corneas, not the contacts!). But please don't worry and think this is happening to you--because you only wore them a year!! But perhaps your eyes are trying to tell you something. At least give your eyes a break from the contacts once in a while andwear your glasses instead. Are you seeing an optometrist or an ophlamologist (can't spell)? Maybe you should try a different doc... I don't know. Try to breath and relax and know that everything will be ok. I am having anxiety problems too and I have to make myself calm down and realize I'm overreacting. Anyways, good luck and hang in there.

Hey Timtim. I don't know the type of lens you are using, but.... to make a long story short. When I first got contacts, I developed an allergic reaction to the solutions (saline in particular) that made it intolerable to wear them. I stopped wearing the lenses for a week, changed solutions, and been AOK for 22 years!!! (even with tons of eye surgeries).
But if you need to change solutions, check with the dr. as to how to do it. Some lens solutions may not mix well with what you've been using & you may have to do something specific to make the change.
And Uberkelly is right about the oxygen...some lenses let more oxygen thru than others, and there are all kinds of lenses. Maybe a different type lens would be better for your eyes, and allow you to wear them comfortably.

Thanks for the replies. I'm not sure if i go to an optometrist or an optemologist. I will have to find that out. Also, it seems more of a prescription issue than a different solution issue, but I appreciate the suggestion and I will see if trying some different ones may help. I think that I may try to see a different eye doctor soon, because I wasnt really happy with how my old eye doctor responded to the problem when I told him...it seemed like he just rushed through it and quickly gave me a little bit different prescription. I'm also interested in trying some lenses that transfer oxygen better to the eye. I heard about a new brand of acuvue's called Oasys that are coming out soon, and they're supposed to be really good for that. Thanks guys.
