I got this cold about 5 days ago and since yesterday is seems my lungs are filled with phlem, I can hear it, I can feel it, but I cannot cough it up, it is just stuck there. The thing is, when I do try to cough my head throbs~! It hurts so bad~and even when I try and blow my nose or bend over it hurts then too. I can tell in my voice I am all stuffed up but my nose itself doesn't seem all that stuffy. Can this be some sort of a sinus infection or something else? I would go to the doctor but don't want to unless its absolutely necessary due to the fact that I dont have any medical insurance. So, has anyone else ever experienced this and how long does it last?

Hi,

It sounds as if you have a bad bronchitis. Do you have any other symptoms such as fever and body aches? What colour is the phlegm if you do manage to cough it up? Do you feel cold or hot and are you thirsty? How long have you had it?

Hey Sarah~

Well, the right side of my neck is sore along with head pain, but I don't have a fever or chills or anything like that. It's just this horible pain in my entire head whenever I cough or blow my nose. When I do manage to cough phlem is is a light colored green. But when I blow my nose it is perfectly clear. Go figure~ This cough seems to come back every month or so, but I have never had the head and neck pain with it. But it seems my cold that started 5 days ago is gone and now I have this~maybe you can help me figure this out~thanks so much Sarah~

Hi,

It sounds like you may have a secondary bacterial infection from the cold that has gone to your chest and given you bronchitis. If you are coughing up green sputum as you say, that is infected. The soreness in your neck is probably because your glands are swollen and sometimes coughing can give you a headache because of the pressure.

Sounds like you have an infection and you may need antibiotics if it does not clear, but it is good that you do not have a fever. You could try some Echinacea tincture which is good for those kinds of things. You could also try taking the homeopathic remedy Phosphorus in a 30c potency. This is good for clearing chest infections. Try taking three a day for three days and see if it helps. Then stop. If you still have some clear, bland or greenish discharge that is thick, then you could try taking some Pulsatilla again in a 30c potency and seeing if that finishes the job. Again take it three times a day for three days. You can get these from your pharmacy.

Hope this helps.

Take care

Sarah
