Hi,
I used Klonopin for RLS, FM and to help me sleep. I took 1mg at bedtime for 3 years. I always got my script with 5 refills from my Rheumatolgist. It is a benzo,(anti-anxiety med) but it can be written with refills. It's not on the DEA's list for monthly single scripts.
I am just now switching from Klonopin to Trazadone at the request of my Psyciatrist. I'm also using Lexapro which treats depression AND axiety, being that Klonopin also treats anxiety, I guess he figured that was too much anti-anxiety medication for me, and it was really time for me to get off that benzo. I've had some w/d affects, not too bad, just a little shakiness and my FM pain has increased some but nothing as bad as when I came off Effexor!
Hope this helped some.

Thanks for the replies! The reason why i thought it wasn't,on my bottle, theres no orange sticker that states controlled substance,so maybe the pharmacist forgot to put it on there. What i do,is lock up all my meds. that are controlled.

According to the numbering on the bottle (they have a numbering code for different classes here) my Klonopin is a controlled substance. I got the script last month and the script was for 90 tabs (a months supply) with four refills. It must be a schedule III, which is refillable. My Ambien is the same numbering and it is a schedule III. I got it too with four refills.

Hey,
Director is right. If you look at your script number, the number you give the pharmacy when you call for a refill, a controlled substance will begin with a "C" followed by the refill number.
There are a lot of meds out there Class/Schedule III that are refillable, though they are considered a controlled substance. The DEA sets the classification for these meds. So, if you see a "C" infront of your script refill number, you have a controlled substance. :) Simple huh? LOL
Glad we helped ya out! May I ask why your doc prescribed it for you? Sleep? Anxiety? Also, be careful with it, hon, Klonopin is a pretty potent benzo. That's why it comes in such low dosages. I believe it starts at .25mg then goes to .5, 1 and the highest is 2mg. I started on .5mg and then went to 1mg and I was on it for three years. I will make you sleepy, so be careful. K?
Here's wishing you a good spirit,

HEy MH, Director is correct, It's a class 111, it shouldn't need to be on a triplicate, those are mandatory in some states for class 11 drugs like morphine, oxy, meth, demerol and the amphetamines. But klonopin is the same class as hydrocodone products right now. Your allowed refills and it can be called in but it is a controlled drug, just not as tightly controlled as class 11 drugs. He may be allowed to use a triplicate on any drug but the classs 11's are mandatory.
I hope this handles the herky jerks, That's my tech term for the RLS like symptoms.
Klonopin usually works but sleep and chronic pain are somewhat of an oxymoron. Aside from a couple nights, I haven't slept more than 4 hours straight since the last surgery in 99.
Take care, Dave

It depends on where you are at. In NY all benzodiazepines require a triplicate prescription and are subject to extra monitoring. The states can set tighter restrictions that the federal levels, and some do so. Maybe your state is one of the ones that does this, or your doctor simply uses that pad for anything that needs a DEA number.
(Hell, my doc writes his DEA number on methocarbamol scripts which aren't even scheduled period, sometimes they just don't know you know?).

feelbad, i don't know either, but that's a good question I want to know as well. But I have another question....
You guys where saying, Shore..Director, that Klonopin is a Schedule 3, but I thought ALL the benzo's where Schedule 4. So there not all in one control group? Are there any in the 2's? And whats the diff., like what makes one a 3 and not a 4? Also, what is Restoril?
