My sister just had her hip pop out for the 4th time a week ago. She had her surgery in February. Very painful. She was told not to cross her ankles or move beyond a 90 degree angle. Emergency room doc. told her thats not true, surgery wasn't good and needs to be redone. I'm hoping this helps her. She is only 42 yrs.

oh no that is terrible....how is she feeling? Keep us posted on her progress and wish her the best of luck. I can't even imagine how painful that must be. Do they think it was a problem with the surgery, or is it something that your sister not been following hip precautions?

Oh the poor woman!!! I'd definately get that checked out and not by the same doctor who did the surgery.
Like silver asked, is she not following the restrictions??? Or is this happening randomly? I think she needs to get this checked out and soon.
I hope she's feeling better by now. Keep us posted as to how she's doing.

I had my hip replaced 6 years ago when I was 26. My doctor warned me not to do anything lady like with my legs...lol. No crossing of the legs or ankles. Never allow my knee to bend inward across my body & no sitting like a frog (which is how I use to sit on the floor) & I still sleep with a pillow between my legs at night otherwise I find my hip hurts in the morning. I always imagined it would be so painful that I'm still aware of what I'm doing with my legs. Give your sister my best xx

She did get a second opinion. surgery is needed the first one was not done well. The cuff is shallow or shorter than it should be and he didn't take that into consideration. Sometime in June she will have her second surgery. You were right she did something she shouldn't have. She had to go to the potty and brought her knees in until she could get her pants down. Never made it. It's horrible having to always be on alert like that. I keep you updated.

That sounds painful!! I had my hip done a few weeks ago and am in constrant fear of having it pop out - how bad is the pain if it does? (sorry i'm sure your sister doesn't want to think about it anymore!)
Vicki - wow - you had your hip done at 26?! I'm 25 and haven't found anyone younger than me so its good to know i'm not the only one! How have you found your new hip? I still feel too young for it - i just can't stop thinking about what things will be like now. You sound like you've coped well with it though. :)

Wigs, not to freak you out, but the pain is incredible. She screamed and cried. Very nervous of emt's touching her leg. She is 41 yrs old and has had 3 back surgeries and they were nothing like this. I'm hoping her surgery on July 5 goes well. It is hard living each day mentally saying to your self, don't do that, watch the leg. It's good in a way. My sister is focused on my thyroid cancer surgery and I am focused on her hip behaving. We make a great team. Best of luck with yours. If you need it, you need it, thats that. We're never happy about having these things, but sticking our head in the sand won't make it better. Be strong.

GNP, I hap my hip replaced 3/1/05. There was a pt in the room next to me that screamed constantly in pain. Apparently she has dislocated her hip 7 times. I hope your sister's surgery goes well on July 5 and I wish you the best also with your thyroid cancer. There is a larger thread called "6 month after hip replacement question". You might want to join us there. Everyone is very nice and informative. The best to you!

I have had both hips replaced. The right hip dislocated a week ago. Seen the ortho doc after the hip was popped back in. I am planning on a revision shortly. Is there any brand that is better then the other in this area? I know the there are different hardware for a THR.
