My son has a cough which gets really bad when he starts to get a cold. Usually he gets the usual allergy symptoms: runny nose, dark circles under his eyes, sneezing somtimes. He's had this about 10 times in the last year, twice within the last month. Sometimes he gets Sinusitis, and a couple times he took antibiotics for pneumonia/bronchitis, but usually they say it's a cold. It gets so bad when he coughs that he almost vomits. The Dr. says it's probably allergies, but the tests don't show that he's allergic to anything. He's on Zyrtec when it happens and now they have given us albuterol to help when he coughs so much. The Dr. says he'll grow out of it but I'm worried.

Sorry to hear about your son. It sounds very similar to what we've been going through. Maybe this information can help you, please read this thread that I made a few weeks ago titled....Sinus infection in 5yr old lead to shaving of tonsils and adenoids?

My daughters both have alot of sinus problems as well as Asthma. You might want to check out this healthboard thread and read what several other mom's have been discussing, it might help.

My 5 yr old son has allergy's so bad, he was in the ER twice before he was actually "diagnosed" with it. They gave him Zyrtec also. It helps his A LOT and he hasn't needed it recently. He had the cough too, and I would give him the Zyrtec in the AM cause he went outside for school and since you can only give it once a day, he would have a horrible cough at night. The Dr told me to give him Benedryl at night. You can try that also, but like someone else said, got to the ENT!

My 10 year old son is the same way. He coughed so hard 2 nights ago that he vomited undigested chili all over my whitish carpet! It was AWFUL and took 2 hours to clean!
He only gets this awful cough when he has a cold and the doctor said it was a form of asthma. He had 2 puffers which always worked, but he lost one of them after his last cold so this time the cough is taking longer to get better. I keep listening to his lungs but there is no crackling or wheezing so will wait another day or 2 before I take him to the doctor. My son's doctor also says that he will grow out of this.......

That sounds like my 8 yr old son. He's 100% better now! He was finally prescribed Nasonex nose spray and Singular tablets. He still has some circles under his eyes but I think they'll always be there. Since he was 4 he's been hospitalized with peunomonia twice. All the "stuff" that drains from his head is what he gags on that makes him cough and sometimes vomit. His nose was always chunky as I called it and it never seemed to get better. He always seemed sick. You can buy Claritin over the counter and even benadryl for kids. Try an allergy med at home and see how it works. Good luck!

Hi
I went through the same thing with my son when he was 3 years old. We took him to an allergy specialist after the doctors were really puzzled and no help what so ever. The allergy lady said he was intolerant to cows dairy products. He used to cough every night until he was sick and when he had a cold it was loads worse. We took him off all milk and milk related products and after a couple of weeks he was completely cured. You have to be very strict and have no dairy for at least 1 month but when he was better I put him on goats milk ( he hated soya milk) and he is fine on that. It was amazing, after a YEAR of awful sickness, coughing, and frustation we were finally better! Cows milk is known to be mucas producing but doctors fail to recognise this.
Anyway try this ,I hope it helps
